Help-why is my DD awake?

My DD is 19 months old and used to go to bed early and wake up early, well about a month ago we changed her bedtime and she goes to sleep at 7 and would wake around 6-630. But now she is going to sleep at 7 and waking up at 5-she is tired but won't go back to sleep and only takes one nap during the day.

Anyone have any ideas of why she is doing this?

TIA

  • DS is trying to change things too. If he goes to bed too late or can't settle down for an hour he still wakes and wakes earlier than usual...grr. Poor kiddos need their sleep.

  • Let me know if you figure it out! DS has been waking up between 4:30 and 5:30 most mornings for months now. We've tried adjusting bedtime, moving his nap, but  it only works for a while. I've had some success with offering milk and then laying him back down -- would that work for your DD?

  • We have tried that, she will sometimes go back for a 20 minute power nap after being awake for 2 hours. But not right away. I can't let her just stay in bed if she is crying for me.

Her nap time did not change and like another poster said they need their sleep and it is just so hard to know-if she needs to go to bed earlier or later or something else.

  • We have the same problem.  A few weeks ago we pushed DD's bedtime back from 6:45pm to 7:00pm and ever since then she's been waking up between 4:30 and 5:30.  (She previously woke up between 5:30 and 6:00).   She generally won't go back to sleep either, we've tried letting her CIO in the morning but that doesn't work and lately we've been rocking her back to sleep if she's up before 5:00am just so that she can get a little more sleep before daycare (she'll usually fall back asleep for about 40 minutes or so as long as someone holds her).   She takes a 1.5-2 hour nap everyday at daycare.

It was a mad rush to get home from work, feed her and get her to bed by 6:45 so the extra 15 minutes helped--but we might have to go back to the earlier bedtime!
