If you are working you'll want a double-electric pump and you'll want to spend some money on it. A good pump is worth it. You'll be spending a lot of time with it, so plan to think loving thoughts about your breast pump.
I'd check with your insurance company first and see if they cover one. I know that if my doctor writes a prescription for it, my insurance will cover one.
Also, I think the IRS just passed something saying that breast pumps are approved for flexible spending accounts if you have one.
All of the advice I've been getting from family and friends has been to just rent one from the hospital. They are faster/more powerful than anything you can get in the store. Also, if bf doesn't work for you, you're not out the money.
Corban Asher born 05.19.11 - can't wait to meet him in heaven.
"The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away, blessed be the name of the LORD." Job 1:21
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God." 2 Cor. 1:3-4
I JUST got off the phone with my insurance company asking if they covered it and as long as my dr. writes a prescription they will. Definitely check before you buy one. They are such a huge expense for a good one!
I have used a Medela ($270+) and an Ameda/Lansinol ($150ish) and don't really think there is a difference in power or output. And the Ameda was easier to clean.
I highly recommend a double electric pump by Medela. yes, they are expensive but worth every penny.
I have the Medela Pump In Style that I used for a year with DD. I'm secretly coveting the handsfree model though. I just don't know that I can justify getting another pump when I already own one!

I got a pre-owned pump from a consignment sale...sounds gross, but the motor is the most important part. You can often find them for less than $100, and replace all of the parts that touch you, and the milk brand new for a reasonable price.
I got a Medela pump in style advanced double pump, I have heard from my breast feeding friends that it is worth every penny and is the best on the market. Good luck!
