Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

What are your fave toddler lunch and dinners

DD will not eat veggies or meat. She is very picky. I cave and give her purees every other day of veggies just so she gets some in her system. She loves cheese, fruit, bread, ect, oh and sweet potatoes. What are some easy toddler meals I can serve? Sometimes I feel like I just give snacks. Lunch today was cheese, crackers and fruit. DH and I are having chicken salad for dinner, so I need something for her to eat... ANY ideas would be appreciated.

  • If she likes pasta, maybe try vegetable pasta with the puree.  Sometimes, like today, we are eating cereal for dinner because we love it.  H works nights and will have to fend for himself or eat cereal as well.

  • If you don't have one already, buy a mini-chopper. (Cuisinart makes one for like $30) Finely chop up steamed veggies and mix them in with pasta sauce, mashed potatoes, soup, etc. I also still use Earth's Best veggie purees as "dip" for chicken nuggets and potato wedges. I tried to bake some veggies into muffins and stuff but I didn't like how it turned out. Plus, hiding the flavor/texture of veggies is only going to prolong the child NOT eating actual veggies on their plate. Mix it up with something they already like, and then gradually change the ratio of chopped veggies::base (sauce, mashed pots, etc) Sooner or later they'll be eating steamed veggies straight up. Be patient about it, and good luck!
  • DD would only eat meat about half the time we gave it to her so we started giving her tofu and she loves it.  We cube it and coat in crushed graham crackers or cheerios.

wholesomebabyfood.com is a great site for ideas.

  • Thanks for all the great ideas. I have a chopper I should start using and I will check out that website also.
  • My LO is super picky, especially with textures.  He really is only interested in dry textures so I have given him cheese quesadillas, chicken nuggets, pb&j (toasted), etc.
