my level drawn yesterday was 18 so my RE has prescribed prometrium through the first trimester. I guess I'm just kind of lost as to what numbers are normal and what side effects that medication has. The nurse said my progesterone levels should be between 18 and 24 but he usually supplements for more than 25 in women with recurrent loss. What has your experience been?
I had nausea everyday until a few days after I stopped. However it wasn't to a point where I couldn't do anything. I think I was mostly happy I am still pregnant.

Congratulations to elbandas09, cherylanddoug, tctibbe(MsPegees) and alliejoe for their take home babies!
I don't remember how low mine was, but my OB had me on it from the BFP to 14 weeks, twice a day, vaginally. It wasn't bad, and my LO is doing just fine. Granted, we don't think that we lost Bryce due to a progesterone issue, so my experiences may not relate.
BFP #1 - Twin B lost at 5w
Bryce Addison I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living my baby you'll be.
Our baby boy was born sleeping on 9.17.10. He was 19w1d.
I think 18 is good, but your RE is probably being cautious. During my 4-5th week, My OB told me he wanted to see my P4 above 20 since I have been on one 200mg prometrium suppository at night since around 3DPO this cycle. I haven't noticed any side effects, but I'm sure some of my PG symptoms are similar (i.e. bloat). My OB only did P4 draws during my betas for with my last 2 PGs. They were very low - 4.5 and 7.5 and I MC shortly after. My OB explained that P4 can drop causing a MC, but it can also drop because of a MC. It's difficult to know which came first. HTH!

I've been on different kinds of progesterone each cycle after O until BFN (or in this case, BFP). I take oral prometrium now, and my progesterone levels with this pregnancy were at 44.5 last time they were tested. I don't think my symptoms are much different than "normal" pregnancy symptoms, just sometimes enhanced. When I was on it during the 2ww in BFN cycles, I'd have hunger, heartburn, and sore boobs as side effects...all things I'd probably have now anyway. It gives me comfort to take it every day, even if it's nothing but a placebo (who knows).
At my first draw my level was 12, so I was prescribed 100mg suppositories twice a day. Three days later, my level was 25. My symptoms have been hard to pinpoint, because I'm never sure if it's pregnancy or progesterone related. Overall the only thing I've noticed is a little dizziness if I stand up too quickly, which I have read is a possible side effect. It seems to be doing it's job, so I'm very thankful.
ok..well i guess it doesn't sound too bad. i hate taking medicine though so i'm always the reluctant patient. whatever keeps the little appleseed happy!
From what I understand anything over 20 is considered good. Mine started at 16 or around there and then dropped to 9.9. I started progesterone suppositories immediately and within a week my levels were up to 30. I didn't really have any side effects besides the discharge (wear a panty liner every day if you're on the suppositories) but that was pretty much it. I had some spotting in the beginning but I don't know if it was implantation, from the low prog levels, or side effects from the suppositories. Regardless, it didn't last very long and after that it happened every now and then but was very little. After 12wks I went off them and things have been going good so far GL!

I take 200 mg vaginally per day, and my symptoms aren't too bad. I have out of control bloating but it just looks like I'm much more pregnant than I am, so I just tell myself its a preview of what is to come. My boobs are also crazy sore, but I don't know how much of that is the P4 and how much is my pregnancy.
Just make sure you stock up on pantyliners... you will leak hot pink goo the entire time you are on them. Good luck!
