Clicky: What do you do with

The boxes that your appliances come in?

I bought some new tupperware last week but just got around to emptying the box the other day. DD thought that the box was a new toy, so she ran around the house with it all day. I also have the boxes to my waffle maker, 2 crockpots and DD's carseat. I thought I would use them to store the items in when I didn't use them, but that never happened.

  • I try to recycle them, but H keeps throwing them away.  Trash day is Tuesday...Recyle day is Friday...he just can't wait.

Check the edges of the boxes, I've had some nasty cardboard cuts.

  • Since we have to move often due to DH's job, we keep some of our appliance boxes.  We keep the boxes to things that may get broken or would not easily fit in moving boxes with other items (my stand mixer, crock pot, etc.)  I would recycle them if we did not move every couple of years.

  • I keep most down in storage in the basement.  Just in case one day I need to bring it back for problems. After a while I end up sending them to be recycled.

All of DS's boxes (from toys, sterilizer, breast pump, warmer, ect..) are till downstaris.  Easy to store the items for the next baby this way IMO.

  • I really needed more options than what you gave.  I almost always let DD have a day-couple days with boxes and THEN recycle them.

  • I recycle them in the cardboard box dumpster at work. It's extra work to load and unload them from my car but I feel better about not putting them in the trash. We don't have recycling out where we live (small hick town), so we need to haul any recycling into town which is more work than we are willing to do at this point.

  • I didn't vote because we do various things with our boxes. The nicest ones, especially those that have removable lids (like copy paper boxes)  I save for storage, organizing and yard sale stuff. Some small appliance boxes I store the appliance in if it's something I don't use often. Diaper boxes store all LO clothes that he either has grown out of or hasn't grown into yet. The junk boxes that we don't need normally get burnt. My husband has a wood burner in the garage so he'll use them to start fires.
  • When I lived in apartments, I kept all my big boxes for moving.  Now that we bought a house, they all go bye-bye into the recycle bin.  I will usually keep boxes for appliances for a few months in case I have a problem with it and need to take it back.
