If you had Cervadil before an induction...

My best friend is being induced on Friday morning, but our OB is admitting her tonight, so that she can be given Cervadil to thin her cervix. I made some yummy peanut butter chocolate chip cookies last night and I was going to take her a container of them, but then I wondered if they'd let her eat tonight. My labor was induced because my water had broken at home (I was GBS+ so they didn't want to wait for my labor to start on it's own) and they didn't allow me to have anything to eat from the moment I was admitted until the morning after my c-section.

Did they let you eat the first night that you were in the hospital?

Re: If you had Cervadil before an induction...

  • They let me eat right when they put the Cervadil in because it stays in for 12 hours I believe before they look at starting pit. Every place may be different though. Maybe you can store them for her so she can eat them after she delivers or offer them to her hubby if she cant eat :)

  • I was induced with both of my kids, and they used cervadil both times, also. Lucky me. :) Ha. I was allowed to eat until they started Pitocin the next morning. (otherwise, I would have keeled over, because labor with my DD was over 48 hours long) That's very thoughtful of you! I'm sure I would've killed for a cookie. :-D

  • My situation was a little bit different because I had high BP and low amniotic fluid, but after I talked my Dr. into letting me try for an induction instead of just doing a c/s they let me eat until midnight (cervadil was at 5pm). I hadn't eaten all day. Only clear liquids after that until the day after my c/s (yeah, that induction thing didn't work).

I'm sure it won't be a problem. I was told to eat light before I came to the hospital, and I could eat lightly for the 12 hours that the Cervadil was in place. So I'm sure a few cookies will be fine. :)

  • Their plan was to keep my cervadil in for two hours but at 1.5 they took it out b/c LO was not responding well to it.

I was not allowed to eat except ice chips. I had to lie flat on my back and not get up

  • i got to eat the entire duration of my 2.5 day induction--cervadil went in over night so i ate before going to the hospital, but i had breakfast the next morning and lunch and dinner and another breakfast and another lunch--ha!  :)
  • They did not let me eat anything once the Cervadil was put in.  But they did give me ice chips.

Same here. Oh, wait, I was allowed to have popsicles. To be honest, I didn't want anything to eat once they started doing everything.

  • I couldn't eat after the cervadil was placed. I was however, allowed to eat before they placed the second round on the second night... but let's hope your friend doesn't get that far :)

  • My situation was a bit different. I had been admitted to L&D after my regular OB appointment (I was overdue so I was going every 2 days by this point) due to high BP. My appointment was at 9 am and I wasn't allowed to eat anything until 6 pm that night since that was the first time one of the on-duty OB's was able to review my chart. I ate around 6:30 that night and they started Cervadil around 10 pm. I wasn't allowed to eat anything after it was inserted in case I needed a c/s due to my high BP, which is ultimately what happened.

  • I could eat up till 9pm and they started the Cervadil at midnight. IN fact, they came in at 8:30 to give me some ice cream and other snacks since I wouldn't be able to eat the next day.

  • They let me eat  4 hours  after it was placed, if I'd been in labor they wouldn't have.

  • Yes, I was allowed to eat the first night with Cervadil. The next morning the started Cytotec and that is when I was not allowed to eat.

  • I went into labor within an hour after they put in the Cervadil so I could not eat at that point.  I don't know what the rule would have been had I not gone into labor right away.

  • I was admitted the night before and has cervadil that night. I ate a big dinner that night and even had breakfast the next morning. I think you should take them to her!! It would cheer her up!!!
