Cloth Diapering

CDing at daycare

We are going to give a demonstration at a local daycare of CDs.  We currently have 18 BG4.0s and want to get thru to potty learning with them.  (Yes, I know we should probably have a variety, but the glowing reviews of the BGs were enough to sell me....we'll see!)

My question is (assuming they let us), how many CDs did you bring each day, how often did you wash, how many wetbags do you have, etc.  Or do you think they'd prefer something other than a wetbag?  How to separate clean from dirty?

LO will be there ~8 hours.  They change every 2 hours or as necessary.  So that's 4 diapers minimum.  Obviously we'll take the dirties home every night.

Anyone with experience?

My husband REALLY likes this daycare and said last night that if they say NO to CDs, we can do disposables at daycare, CD at home.  I hope they say yes....!

Re: CDing at daycare

  • We take 10, but that's usually overkill.  The most she's gone through in a day is 6, and she wasn't feeling well.
  • We send a hanging wet/dry bag. We put the clean diapers in the dry part, and she puts the dirties in the wet part. We have 2 wetbags, so we bring one home with the dirties to wash on one day and send the clean one the next day. We usually send 7 diapers. The most he's ever used is 5, and usually it's just 3-4.

This.  Except I'm only sending 6 (they typically use 4) diapers a day now that he's older.  Good luck - I hope they're agreeable!

  • Aaaaaaaaaand I had never even heard of a wet/dry bag.  Genius!  So you leave the same wet/dry bag at the daycare and empty out the dirties into a separate wetbag?  Or do you just take the whole thing home and give a new wet/dry bag the next day?

We do have one wetbag but I could see getting two wet/dry bags for daycare for rotation.

    Thank you!!

This, exactly. I suggest not asking them to dump poop or do laundry tabs or inserts, to make things easier on them.

  • I bring mine locking lid plastic container with a clean wet bag for poopy diapers. I then take home the entire container and bring it back with clean diapers. Once my DD got older she was only going thru 2 diapers a day at daycare so I just brought 8 for the week (in DC 4 days a week) at the beginning of the week and took home the dirty ones at the end of the week since I was just washing once a week by then.

  • No, nothing like that!  We went with all snaps so no tabs.  Newborn poop doesn't need to be rinsed at all.  And I am hoping the washing machine pulls the inserts out (we'll see....if not, I will do it when I bring them home).  I want to make it as easy as possible so they don't hate me and my kid.

Do you think we'll be ok with the 18 we have, even with daycare?  Or should we look into getting another half dozen or so?  My husband's only requirement for CDs was that we have all the SAME so he doesn't have to worry about folding, when to use which one, etc.

  • I send 5 diapers everyday and usually they use 4-5 but he's there almost 10 hours 8-530.  I also have 2 spares there at all times.....theyve never been used.  For me 18 would not be enough....but I wash every other day.  I have 24 and even that's pushing it sometimes and I'm stuffing in the morning.

  • I send 5 pocket diapers and one Planet Wise wetbag. He usually only needs 4 diapers each day, so I just leave one there for the next day. He's there from 8:30-5:00.

  • I have 3 smaller wet bags (holds ~6 dipers each) that I rotate through daycare. One I got for free with a black friday order, and the other two I got in various clearance sales. I had 2 but I don't always get through diaper laundry every other day and hate sending a plastic grocery bag.  In his daycare bag I send however many diapers were sent home dirty the day before and there are a few that stay inhis "bin" at day care. Every few weeks I bring everything home and wash even the clean ones since I dont know how long they have sat there. Works for us. I have way more than enough daycare dipes - I have about 24 and prob only need about 14 to be comfortable (he uses about 4 a day and there are 1 or 2 that stay there "just in case"). I wash every other day.

  • We got a note from our doctor saying DS had to be in cloth because he  had skin issues.  The daycare who normally doesn't accept cloth had no issues with the note.

I send DS to school with 6-8 diapers everyday.  I have 3 wet bags for daycare.  I wash the diapers every 3 days (we have 21 total).  Then we have a large wetbag for home that we use that always stays home with us.
