Re: Random funny things

  • did:

Wrote on my jeans and told my mom a man held me down on the playground and wrote on them :)

Lied to my class at show n tell that I had a dog that had puppies. I never had a dod growing up.

Ate flowers at school and got sent home to be watched for 24 hours to see if I was poisened.

    Thought:

    speed limit was 27

Disneyland was a golf course by my house

I know I will think of more :)

  • When we were probably 2 and 4, my sister and I buttered the entire kitchen floor while my parents napped in the next room. We wanted to go ice skating so I got the brilliant idea to get out a tub of margarine and butter the whole floor so we could slide across it.

  • Loading the player...
  • I thought that the county sewage treatment plant was a public pool.  Never went inside, I just always assumed it was a pool.

I was an only child and would play cat's cradle by myself, using my toes.

This is AWESOME, Chibi. You and your sister rock!

  • DID:

Told my class (1st grade?) that my name was actually Rosie.  It was my dog's name.

Tried to ride down a hill on my bike with no hands and my eyes closed (4th grade?).  SO not smart.

    THOUGHT:

That eating the crusts of my bread would help me whistle better.  My dad told me that.  It wasn't until sometime in my 20's that I really thought about it and figured out he just didn't want me wasting food.  (Not that I believed it that long - just that I forgot about it until then.)

...I'm sure there are more but I'm drawing a blank.

I did the same thing! Except I saw it on an episode of Dennis the Menace.
  • I thought all the animal statues at the furniture store came alive at night so I had to pet every.single.one so they were loved and their feelings wouldn't get hurt. Drove my mom crazy.

Every time I went to the mall I would plan out exactly what I would do if I ever was left behind and I had to stay the night (in the mall). This may have been heavily influenced by the Boxcar Children.

I totally did this too!  There was some other book, the name of which is escaping me, where a brother and sister get locked in a natural history museum overnight.  I always wanted it to happen to me.

  • I thought my dad was friends with Fred Gwynne (Herman Munster).  I thought, for sure, that I'd heard my parents talking about my dad having dinner with Fred.  I told all my friends, like it was a fact.  My parents still tease me about this one.  "Oh, and of course, Dad's good friend, Fred Gwynne..."

Always pretended my Barbie was a stripper who worked in the Sears Tower.  She'd dress in a suit and drive "downtown" (like anyone we knew who worked in "the city"), but apparently, there was a strip club there (which there is not, in case you wondered). :-)

ETA: This is mostly just mean.  I convinced my sister to eat powder laundry detergent.  She thought it was dry rice, which was something she liked, so she ate some.  My sister and I also swapped out some dog food pieces from Kibbles & Bits for meatballs, when my brother was making Chef Boyardee spaghetti and meatballs, once.  They softened, he ate them and didn't notice.

There was one where a brother and sister ran away and went to stay in the Metropolitan Museum of art in New York, and I always wanted to go take a bath in a fountain like they did.  It was called From The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.

YES!  That's it!  I guess my memory of it is a little fuzzy.  :)  But I totally remember doing a book report on it in 3rd grade.

  • I hated that everyone called me kat-e-a so I changed the spelling of my name from Katia to Kasha in 3-5 grade. Then I realized half way through 5th grade that it looked way prettier to spell it Katia. So I changed it back!

I fell in a ditch when I was little and cut my cheek on a beer bottle. I have a "J' scar in my cheek from it still to this day. Every boy I have ever dated all had names that started with a J so I thought for the longest time that was why.  I am married to a Johnathan! Kinda weird

Not me but this is from Kiah-

We went and saw the Wiggles when she was like two at the Tacoma Dome. After that every time we went past a water tower shed she called it the Wiggles house.

  • Oh boy. I ...

... Used to run away from home to the side of my house. I would pack up my red wagon with my earthly possessions and put on a raincoat and tall black motorcycle boots from the dress-up box (I was apparently going for the hobo/hooker look) and clomp up and down the street a few times (right in front of my mom, so who was I fooling?!) and then go hang out on the side of the house and read a book.

... Put the stirrups on my stirrup pants not only over my socks, but over my shoes, at a point. I thought it was unique.

... Thought that women got pregnant by a man sitting on their belly button. And I imparted this wisdom onto my friends.

... Got in trouble in fourth grade for writing the word condom on a piece of paper (trying to figure out the spelling) so I could look it up in the dictionary. The paper somehow slid onto my neighbor's desk and he told the teacher.

    And my best one ...

... In first grade, I came home from school and told my mom that my new nickname was F*ckinga*shole. My friend Niki heard her older brother say it and thought it must be a cool word. HER nickname was F*ckcupboard. To this day, I am not sure what that is. My mom locked me on the back porch until I would confess where I had heard that BAD, BAD word.

    HAHAHAHAHA

  • I still love Boxcar Children and FTMUFOMBEF! Also Don't Eat the Pictures where the Sesame Steet gang got trapped in the Met Museum of Art overnight. I wanted to go by my middle name (Elizabeth) or Liz bc everyone made fun of my real name. I threatened to run away to the pond behind my house. I had a specific tree I'd live under and even packed up boxes of stuff that I hauled downstairs. I used to be obsessed that something was stuck to my shoe and was always checking (early OCD manifestation.). Once my mom told me not to do somersaults in my dress when I was about three bc people would see my undies, so after that I became a freak and made her hide them when folding laundry so no one would ever see them. At my bes friend's house we played dress up and had fashion shows on the pool table runway, and no one ever used the brown scarf in their outfit bc it looked like poop. I loved playing Little House on the Prairie and imagined what life would be like if I were Laura. Oh and in first grade I loved Jem and wanted to change my name to one if the Misfit's names...Pizazz, I think. (sorry for no paragraphs, on iPod.)

  • When my brother and I were in elementary school, we were playing with my neighbor on his sunset. He took the rings off of one side (it was the old metal kind with the monkey bars in the middle and then for spots for rings, swings...) He started swinging around the top bar and his belt lop got stuck around one of the bolts. He got stuck hanging upside down and my brother and I got scared that he'd say it was our fault do we took off and ran home, leaving him hanging there and screaming. His mom thought it was hilarious. For the record, he was a troubled kid and my neighbors became his guardians shortly after he was born. They knew he lied a lot to avoid getting himself in trouble, so she understood and laughed when she called my mom to tell her what happened.

  • I only ordered grilled cheese sandwiches when we went put, even if it wasn't the type of place that served them. My sister dressed me up like a princess and made me stand for hours on the street corner and wave to people. I was crying the whole time. She used to tell me to do stuff "or else" and I was affraid of the or else so I did it. I played wagon train with the girls across the street. Their monkey bars was the wagon and we picked eggs off the bushes. I thought that mice with monocules and vests ran the street lights. How else did the lights know a car was there waiting?

  • I used to "run away" which meant taking my fav blanket and going to sit under a tree in the back yard. It never lasted very long b/c I would get cold and go in.

My sisters and I used to wear tights on our head a pretend we had really long hair.

DH told me that when he was little he thought that driving on the freeway was a big race and that you got extra points when you got the "diamonds" (car pool lane marker). A few too many video games in that house, I think :)

  • Did anyone else make retainers out of paperclips and tape, then keep them in a bubble tape container??  I'm not sure why my whole school thought that braces and retainers were the coolest things ever...  I had several different ones in several different paper clip colors to match my outfits =)

YES! And also, I would put the twist off tops of Squeeze It containers in my mouth like a retainer too... I was obsessed and totally jealous of those that "got to" have real ones.

  • I could recite every TV commercial ever made. At 2, I once told a lady in the Supermarket during a Sprite taste-test that it was good, "but I prefer white wine"

Around age 7 - I was so obsessed with Annie I used to have a bag of orphan clothes and would bring it over to all my friend's houses so we could play "Orphans"...apparently that was way more appealing than the rich part.

Around grades 5 & 6, I was a pretty good cartoonist (even got in the Seattle Times once)...I mostly used my talents to draw detailed porn for all my friends. I actually did commissions!

For the longest time - I thought the President lived in our state (Washington, Captiol Hill)

I didn't know girls didn't pee out of their vajay-jay's until I was like 13!

  • These are hilarious!

Lynch - I totally thought retainers were cool too.  (And crutches.)  I thought people that had them were so lucky. Until I had to have braces for 2.5 years and wear a retainer for another year.  Not so cool anymore.

  • -Called suitcases "soupcases"

-Ate butter straight from the tub in the fridge.

-Hated my "unique" name and wanted to change it to Michelle.

-Stole stamps from my Grandmas house all.the.time. I never mailed anything...I just horded them.

-In the 5th grade some punk little boy asked me if I'd ever had sex...I told him yes. I had no idea what he was talking about, but I didn't want to be left out.

-Was terrified of riding the school bus. I thought the driver would make me get off in the wrong spot or take me home with her.

-Thought being an alter server at church made me some kind of royalty and shoved it in my friends faces. They were never impressed.

Yes, I always wanted braces, glasses and crutches.  I made retainers out of paperclips, too.  I never needed braces, but have had glasses, crutches and real retainers, at some point.

I have no clue about the books you ladies have mentioned (Boxcar?).

In first grade, I looked under my teacher's skirt.  I went to Catholic school and wanted to know if nuns wore underwear.  They do.  My mom didn't get too mad b/c when she was in school (same Catholic school), she thought nuns didn't even have legs.

When I was 5, I said the word 'fart' to a friend, while on the porch.  Before I even had the "t" sound out of my mouth, my mother had yanked me up by one arm, plunked me down at the bathroom sink, and shoved a bar of Ivory soap in my mouth.  Growing up, there was NO swearing in my house.  And 'fart' was a bad word.  The kinda sad (or maybe stupid) thing is I was only telling my friend that I wasn't allowed to say that word, when I got soap in my mouth for it.

My sister and I used to take our clothes off for the local boys, when we were young (maybe 7-8, old enough to know better).  And then the boys would tell my (Catholic school) teacher in school and I'd deny it like crazy.

Stellaz- I was always so stuck on sex stuff when I was a kid, I probably would have asked for some of your porn cartoons! :-)

  • Oh, and we also used the silver part of gum wrappers to make strapless bras for our Barbies.  If you think about it, it is kind of weird that she doesn't wear bras.  Maybe too realistic?

  • - I loves the movie "Troop Beverly Hills" and in 3rd grade, I watched it and the next day at school, for no reason at all, I said, "Screw You, ______" She told me I couldn't come over to her house and I didn't understand why she was so upset. I had no idea what screw you meant.

    - I used to eat butter out of the tub too, Justine. And I hated my name. Nobody I knew was named Kamlyn or Kami. I wanted my name to be Megan.

    - I used to think that there were trolls under the huge steel grate things at the Seattle Center. I was always afraid to walk over them.

    - I didn't know what a boner was until I was at least 14. When girls talked about some boy having one, I just smiled and nodded like I knew what they meant. Then I made the mistake of asking my dad and older brother what it was. They just laughed at me and made me ask my mom, who turned redder than a fire truck. She's super quiet and shy and didn't talk about stuff like that.
