Does anyone know anything about RC airplanes?

Our 3rd anniversary is coming up in a couple weeks.  It's the first one we'll actually spend together, because DH was in Basic Training for our 1st, and in Iraq for our 2nd.  I want to make it special.l

DH has decided he wants a remote controlled airplane.  I've been looking at them online, but there's so many choices, I don't know how to choose!  He's never used one before, so it needs to be something easy to operate, but it still needs to look "cool".  Can someone give me some guidance?  I'd like to spend $100ish.

Thanks!

  • I was actually planning on that.  I found one close by, but don't have the car to go check it out!

  • DH is really into RC stuff and has several planes, trucks, helicopters, etc.  The Ember by Parkzone is a pretty easy plane to fly (but there can't be much wind out); DH got one for his dad to learn on.  When DH gets home, I'll ask if there are any other planes that are good for beginners.

  • Forgot to add -- if your DH doesn't have a radio (controller) for the RC plane, make sure you get one or get a set that is "ready to fly" and comes with a radio.  Also, the Ember I mentioned above comes in both the Ember and the Ember 2.  The Ember 2 is the newer model and is better, I think.  Also, DH always has a bunch of extra batteries that he has charged and ready to go when he flies, so you might want to get some extras too.
