DH and I are "unexplained infertility". Just had a BFN after 1st IUI. So bummed. Had good follicle, lining and plenty of sperm. Anybody have a "hostile environment" where there ph is off. I know there are supplements you can take to help it. Any other Ideas of why IUI didnt work. I am very regular on my cycle and ovulating. I started round 2 of Clomid 50 mg today. My clinic said I would not need a cd11 US to check follicles. Does anyone elses clinc do this? I am requesting to have it done.
Any input is great!!!
God Bless
Re: Failed 1st IUI...frustrated
Welcome to the board, big (((hugs))) on the BFN, and loads of luck with the next cycle!
I know how frustrating it can be to have an IUI cycle that is good on paper but doesn't pan out...as hard as it is, perhaps the odds just were not in your favor for this cycle. Our RE quotes IUI percentages as between 6-26% per cycle depending on your diagnosis. In other words, IUI brings you up to the average percentage chance for other couples but is far from a "sure thing."
As for the U/S, how would the clinic know when to do the second IUI if they don't do an U/S? Are they trying to schedule your U/S later or have you use OPKs? I definitely think you are right to ask for the U/S...you need to know the number and size of the follies before the IUI to prevent any HOM issues.
Two C/P and Lots of Tests
Me = LPD + cancer survivor, DH = low count and morphology
IUIs #1-5, January 2011 - June 2011 = BFN
IVF #1 in July/August 2011 = BFP!!!!!
"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear."
Sorry you had to expeience that!!! I hate IF...I wish I could punch it. I hope your next one brings you that BFP.
As for the hostile environment, the IUI is the treatment for it. The IUI allows the sperm to bypass the part that would be considered hostile, so you should be okay there.
And the u/s...I can't tell you what's right, but I can tell you what my clinic does. If I'm doing and unmedicated or clomid cycle I start going in on day 10 for b/w and u/s. Depending on the results of that, I either go every day or every-other day for both. Sometimes it's four days in a row because my eggs tend to grow really fast and then slow down so they never want to miss it. The day after my surge and u/s is when I go for my IUI. I would definitely ask for an u/s...especially with clomid.
Good Luck!

welcome to the board.
We are unexplained.
I would highly recommend getting monitored - for our IUI's I was monitored on day 3, 9, 11, and every day until they were ready to trigger.
Good luck.

You sound like me EXACTLY! Just had our first IUI and ended in BFN, im totally regular, 28-29 day girl, only thing we have found is DH has slightly low motility and count but IUI helps that and still BFN, it can be very aggrivating. Im sorry =(
For IUI im monitored CD3, CD13 and every other day until follicles are big enough to trigger. GL to u!
