Am I having contractions?

I'm so paranoid now that I know there was a slight change in my cervix last week.

My MFM said some women don't feel contractions -- but maybe their face will get really hot for 30 seconds or so.  I have been having some "hot face" episodes today and now I'm worried it might be contractions.

My stomach is sometimes hard, even when sitting and it seems to be when I'm "hot faced".  If I'm only noticing this about once or twice per hour am I okay?  I'm going to guzzle some water too -- I know I haven't had enough today.

My nurse called today and my fFN came back negative (from Wednesday) so I shouldn't be too concerned with going into labor, right?

Re: Am I having contractions?

  • I would call, just in case.  I was one of the ones who didn't feel contractions until after my water broke (and then it was even hours later!), so I'm not much help.  Drink lots of water, like you said.  And also get off your feet!  I would put a call in though.

  • Obviously I have no clue, but I would probably just call and run it by them, just to be sure. I would think that with a negative ffn test you would be fine, but I would check with them just to relieve your anxiety about it! I am sure you will feel much better checking in with them, especially since it's friday! That way you don't have to go into the weekend not knowing.

Hang in there sweetie, I am sure things are just fine!?

  • Of course now that I've posted this and I'm chugging water I haven't had another one....which is good, very good.  I'm going to keep an eye on things and note what time they happen and call later if they come back.

  • It never hurts to call.  I've never heard of the hot face thing before.  I do get that hardening/tightening feeling.  I've had them during the NSTs and they don't register as contractions, so I think they are just BHs.  I feel them more often when I am walking around vs laying down.

  • Could they be BH?

I agree, drink lots of water, put your feet up, and keep track.  Isn't it normal to have 1 or 2 within an hour?  But if it is more then 4 or 5, then you need to worry?

I also say call your dr. if you're still concerned, especially since it is Friday.
