need sleeping advice for a 1 year old

She is an awesome sleeper. By awesome, I mean she started STTN (5 hours or whatever) around 1 month old, and has been sleeping well ever since. She usually goes to bed around 9 pm and sleeps till 8 the next morning. Two naps during the day.

This past week has been kind of crappy. She started waking up several times in the middle of the night. She just sits up in her bed and whines. I go in, lay her down, pat her back until she looks sleepy, and as soon as I leave, she cries. I rocked her till she was asleep, laid her down, and as soon as I left the room she cried. I think you get the point.

The only other time she's done something like this was about two months ago. I'm wondering if it's related to milestone development, because the last time this happened was around the time she started crawling.

Have any of you experienced something similar? Did you do CIO or did you sort of coddle him/her until they were over the bad sleeping stage?

  • My DS has been doing this same thing this past week.  Once I pick him up he lays his head down and goes back to sleep.  I rock him for awhile, and as soon as I go to lay him down in the crib he screams hysterically.  The past few nights I've put him in bed with me, and it's like he can't get close enough to me.  If I get out of arms reach he starts fussing.

  • Yes, and CIO was the only thing that worked to reverse it.

  • It's frustrating. If I let her fuss, she'll go back to sleep, only to wake up a few minutes later and start all over again. H sleeps through the whole thing (stupid male selective hearing).

  • I have no advice but wish someone did.  We are going through the same thing and it is horrible.  Two weeks ago she woke at 1 AM and never went to bed. Last night she woke at 10:30 and cried until 4:30 AM (we of course were tending to her, she didnt CIO this long). I have no idea what was wrong with her last night. But it was heart breaking.

  • We have run into this as well.  I find that it usually preceeds or coincides with teething, and/or a neurological leap right before DS learns a new skill (like walking).  Just verify it's not a fever or ear infection, etc.
