Potty Training Questions

I know DS is only 18 months, but I was thinking about getting a potty for the bathroom. He seems super interested in what we're doing on the toilet when we're in there & I thought if there was a little on in there he could sit on it (even with clothes on, I wouldn't really expect that he'd do anything on it) if he wanted. Good idea? Bad idea?

We will be moving hopefully sometime soon. Should that stop me from getting him excited about using the potty? I am worried he'll get excited about it & then we'll be in a different house & he'll regress or something.

My original timeline was to get him a potty as his birthday present (in October) & get him really excited about it & then after Christmas start actively training him, but he's showing such an interest now that I thought maybe we could start easing him into it?

What do you think? Any advice is appreciated. :)

Re: Potty Training Questions

  • I don't see why you can't PT him now. My DS was PT at 17 months old- daytime, naps and nightime. It was very easy. We also did it when we were on baby leave.  Frankly I think its easy to PT a 18-22 month old than a 2.5-3 year old.  When they are older they are in the "no" phase and control phase  Now everything is fun.
