Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

15 month old not liking stroller...what to do?

My DD all of a sudden does not like to be in her stroller.  Its so hard to go anywhere..its such a struggle even if she has a snack and sippy or toy.  She lasts a little while and then wants out but when I have let her out its not a good thing and I can never get her back in without a struggle.

I am worried I won't need to get a double stroller when number 2 arrives because it may just be a waste.

Anyone else?

  • Is your DD walking? My DD is the same way. She would rather walk then sit in the stroller. What I usually do is let her walk behind the stroller for a little bit and then, put her back in, when she starts to get tired. Usually fights with me, but afterward, she forget about it and we move on.

Yes DD is walking so maybe I will try this when we go out today.  Trying to bring her to the mall....should be interesting :)

I've pretended that the stroller was a race car to get her back in it. Once I get her back in the stroller, strap her in, I zoom away. She loves it and forgets about wanting to be out of it.

    Good Luck

  • We are having a hard time with this as well.  I have been trying to teach him to hold my hand so he can walk instead of ride.  It kinda stinks so far.  He wants to do his own thing so he will go boneless instead of walking next to me, so then I have to pick him up. He does seem to be improving,  I guess it is a process.

  • My ds is like this as well.  I hardly get the stroller out anymore though.  He is finally getting pretty good at holding my hand when we are out.  If we are going to be somewhere for awhile, I will put him in my ring sling.  He really likes it and it is comfortable for me.  I use the hip hold and then I can point things out to him and talk to him.  80% of the time, he falls asleep in it still.  Good luck, it gets better!

  • Same here- DD only likes the stroller if it's moving.

  • DD is the same way, I've started carrying her on my back in a Mei tai, maybe you could look into an ergo or something?

  • If your DD is walking I would just let her walk- that's how we got out of the battles :)
