I picked up my son from daycare today, he was in his high chair and I could tell something was off right when I saw him. He was really pale and his lips were blue/purple. His feet and hands were also blue/purple. I immediately grabbed him and he was not responding to me, he was alert but seemed very out of it. The whole episode lasted 5-10 minutes.
We brought him to the ER, the doctor said he could have choked or had a seizure. (He called it an absence seizure) I'm pretty sure he didn't choke. They also did an x-ray to make sure he didn't aspirate anything (came back clear).
Has anyone experienced this with their child? I'm nervous ![]()
Re: scary day and a ? about seizure's
I have two students who have those. It isn't your normal kind of seizure with the shaking. They literally just start staring, and one of them sort of pants.
DD1 had a febrile seizure 10 days ago, and it was awful. She was shivering like she was cold, and her lips turned purple. She was staring up and to the right and couldn't make eye contact. Afterward she went to sleep and I couldn't wake her up. She actually had an accident during the seizure which I didn't realize until after.
THIS! This is so scary I want to cry for you. I'm sorry this happened. Hopefully after you follow up with the Dr they'll be able to make sure this doesn't happen again. Poor baby!
Go Phils!!
My husband started having seizures 2 years ago and was diagnosed with epilpsy. He still has both grand mal seizures where he shakes on the ground, and abscense seizures in which it's almost as if he zoning out. You can't get his attention and when he comes back to he doesn't think anything's wrong or happened. Both kinds of seizures make him very tired and out of it the rest of the day.
I have heard of fevers causing one time occurance siezures. I'm sorry to hear about your little one. I'm sure the doctors will find out what's going on. Hang in there. You'll be in my thoughts. It's a tough thing to go through.
I had childhood epilepsy, from the age of 3 to 13. It definitely sounds like an absence or petit mal seizure. I used to have those more frequently than the grand mal seizure, with shaking. Basically I would go into a trance, and when I would snap out of it, I wouldn't know where I was. My teachers even noticed when I would have one. It's pretty scary, but you would be surprised how common this childhood disorder is.
I would definitely take your lo to the doctor and get some tests ran. My epilepsy was controlled by Dilantin and Phenobarb.

Thanks everyone for the replies. He did not have a fever at the time, which I guess I would maybe feel a little better about since I've heard of those so often. But he wasn't shaking, just completely still and zoned out. The blue lips and feet were what had me really worried.
He's home with me today and I'm watching him like a hawk
