Silly ?

I feel like I should know the answer to this... but I don't. Is there a way to pre-make bottles for the middle of the night? Right now we have to let the pumped breast milk soak in hot water to get it room temperature and we're combining half formula for her jaundice. Can we go ahead and make the entire bottle (breast milk, water, formula) and put it in the fridge and then just get that room temperature?

Re: Silly ?

  • I wouldn't premix only because it will separate while it sits in the fridge and you aren't supposed to shake BM, so then it would be hard to mix back up in the middle of the night. But you could make up however many bottles of formula ahead (half filled), pour in the BM when you need to feed, then sit the combined bottle in warm water. Doesn't save a lot of work, but saves you having to measure formula when you're exhausted in the middle of the night. You can premake formula as long as you use it within 24 hours (I think... the liquid ready-made kind is like 36 or 48 hours from opening, but I think powder is 24 hrs? It's been a while and I don't remember.) .

  • You can premake the formula and refridgerate for 24 hours or so and you can premake the formula and let it it sit out for about 2 hours.

When I was premaking bottles and mixing with BM I would make up the formula bottles and BM bottles in the right amounts and combine and let it warm up when I needed it.... just like you're talking about.
