The barking cough would be my biggest concern. I would probably wait a day or so and watch the cough. If it worsens, I would call. If not, I would ride it out. Good luck!
I actually called pedi today about yellowish/light green snot. I was told that it doesn't always mean an infection at this age because they can't yet blow their nose so it sits in there a long time. They said to just keep suctioning it out the best you can so it doesn't develop into an infection. I am going to wait another day or two and if it's still looking like this, I will probably bring her in to have her ears looked at. She doesn't have any other symptoms. Maybe a light cough occasionally and a slight fever below 100.
Our pedi has told me over and over (cuzz I keep asking I guess) that the color of the snot isn't all that important. I was raised to think that if it's green it indicates infection but the pedi tells me this isn't so...
My DD is dealing with a runny nose right now. Luckily, hers is still clear. I looked in my American Academy of Pediatrics book regarding runny noses, and it only mentioned consulting with the pediatrician if the runny nose lasts longer than 7-10 days. I always just call anyhow if I'm worried about something. I'd rather call and have peace of mind rather than feel like I'm not being proactive about DD's health for fear of calling about something that they won't think is worthy of an office visit.
Owen has had a runny nose for a few days now, started off clear, then to yellow and now its green. I called the nurses line for advice, I didn't want to set up an appointment if it wasn't necessary. She said clear to green is the normal progression of a cold, and as long as it isn't accompanied by a fever he will get over it just fine. She told us to put a humidifier on at night and use saline and the bulb syringe to get as much as I can out before he goes to sleep. Owen doesn't have a barking cough though, I would call and let them know his symptoms. Hope he feels better soon!
