Nickname suggestions?

My husband and I were talking about what nicknames are going to be for our daughter. Her name is going to be Leighton Olivia.

Any ideas?

  • Leight, Leigh, Leia
  • I don't think Leighton lends itself to many natural NNs... I think with names like that, it's best to wait until she's born and find a NN that suits her personality.
  • What about Loli? The L for Leighton and Oli for Olivia?

  • In general, I'm not a fan of planned nicknames - with the exception of when you plan to primarily call a child one thing but want a more formalized version to name them officially.

I think nicknames are more authentic when they just happen to come out. I'm sure you'll call her a gazillion things and some things will stick and suit her personality more than others.

I agree with this. I will never understand why people agonize over what to nickname their child. To me this is something that should just happen naturally. My name is Shannon. My parents could have planned on calling me Shanny I guess if they wanted to but they didn't... now (my dad mostly) calls me Peanut or Elizabeth (my middle name). We are naming our son Logan, I'm not sitting here going "Oh should be call him Logie? (ewwwww).". I think Leighton is a nice name, just call her Leighton and then when you meet her see if any nicknames pop up.
