Baby Names

Miribel

I heard this for the first time today and we already have our names, but thought it was really pretty.  There are a few different spellings I found online(Maribel, Miribelle).  Thoughts?

  • A while back someone posted Mirabelle (meer-a-bell), but Maribel/Maribelle is also known (Mare-eh-bell). I have never seen Miribelle and I'm not sure if its Meer-eh-bell or Meer-ee-bell.

  • i prefer the spelling maribel.

i don't prefer this name, though.

  • Mirabel is the spelling you're looking for. I think it's the traditional name. I love it, personally. I think it's sweet, old fashioned and just plain lovely.

  • I like both Mirabel and Maribel, but they are different names. Mirabel is more English-y and old-fashioned, Maribel is Hispanic and feels more modern.

I prefer Mirabel, but it really depends on what you're going for.

  • I've heard of it before, pronounced Meer-a-bell or Mare-a-bell but never came across one IRL.

I have, however, known several Maribels. They were all Hispanic, and pronounced Mah-di-bell.

I knew a Mirabel growing up.  I think this was how it was spelled.  She was called Mira as a nn some of the time.  I think it's pretty, and I would favor this spelling.
