Flying with 18 mo. old

Would you fly first class with an 18 month old baby?  Why or why not?

Re: Flying with 18 mo. old

  • I would not. As much as the extra room might be nice, the people in first class would probably be the most annoyed if LO acted up at all since they paid more/used points for their seats.

  • The only reasons I could think to "not" do it would be first the chance that you may get two seats next to one another in coach, and they usually fill or upgrade people into first class.

Also, the possibility of irritating the other first class passengers. For whatever reason I feel like some business travelers get more irritated with kiddos .. though I have met plenty of super kind ones as well. If I feel like people around me are irritated, I get a little bit more nervous..

I have a friend who always flies first class with her little one, we never have..

My friend Jess and I just posted three toddler travel tip posts on our blog (link below) if you're interested at all.. and happy travels!!

  • Sure, why not? I mean if the child is having a fit the first class folks will hear them just as easily as those back in coach.
  • We will be doing this in May. The airline had a great deal, and the difference between first class, and economy with two checked bags, was $20.00. To hard to pass on the extra room. I'll be flying with DH as well, so if we do have a meltdown, we will pass her back and forth to help ease her. This will be DD's 4th flight, but hers and my first time in first class.
  • Just flew over the weekend with my 20 month old and DH.... thought several times that sitting in first class would have been worth the upgrade.  I also thought that those passagners would probably hate us for bringing a kid into their sanctuary. I guess all in all, I wouldn't have spent the extra money, but would have loved to be sitting there for the space! I think the lack of space actually kinda made DD HAVE to stay put.  I would spend the money on a seat for your toddler rather than first class with a toddler on your lap. I would not fly by myself with a toddler on my lap! It was ok with DH and I both, and DD did fine, but we were both "working" the entire time to keep her entertained and quiet.

  • You have just as much right to be in first class as anyone else does. We have flown business class several times overseas with our son, and never has it been a problem.
