Still using cool mist humidifier?

I used a cool mist humidifier for DD all winter. Now that it's warming up (I'm in Charlotte, NC), do I still need to use it every night or only if she's congested? Is there any disadvantage to using it - like, can the air be too humid?  I do sometimes use a small fan if it's getting too warm in the room, but I've considered getting a white noise machine, too. TIA.

Re: Still using cool mist humidifier?

  • I don't think there is much reason to use it every night. We have a warm mist one because DS's room is usually cold. We only use it when he is stuffy. We have an air purifier that doubles as as white noise machine that we use every night instead. I think the risk of consistently using a humidifier is that it can cause mold to grow, which sets the stage for allergies etc. We had mold on one of our windows after we used our humidifier for a few weeks. We do live in a rainy state though.

  • I have used it every night for as long as I can remember...mainly because it's loud and blocks out the noises outside of her room.  I plan to keep using it every night
  • I usually only bust ours out if DS has a cold.

  • It's really dry here in CO so I run ours all winter.  But we don't use them in the summer.
