anyone with ovarian cysts??

Has anyone had any experience with ovarian cysts.  I have a 3.4 cm one on my right ovary that my dr tells me is normal and not to worry about.  Meanwhile I get pain with it on a pretty regular basis.  It is usually just a bothersome aching but sometimes it is a sharp pain.   Just wondering what other ladies experience has been?

Re: anyone with ovarian cysts??

  • I had 10cm cysts in both ovaries when I was 11 weeks pregnant. One of them twisted so both ended on my right side, it infected my apendix and had emergency surgery the same day.

I'm guessing I had them before getting pregnant, and the hormones made them grow. I was showing a belly at 10 weeks, for real, no bloated, but it wasn't baby but the cysts. LOL

I wouldn't worry if the pain is not consistent, but if you are going to get pg again, watch them closely.

  • I had a cyst the size of a grapefruit about 6 years agoa nd they removed that and my ovary.  When I had DD #2 they said I had another one on there and since I have c/s they just removed it.  I know you get them and they dissappear quite often... I think it becomes a problem if they start to grow to big... however if you are having pain and stuff I would be a little concerned.  Maybe you need a 2nd opinion.

  • I get them, but usually dont know about them until they burst which is pretty painful.  Its like what ovualtion pain feels like but 10x worse and its more of a constant pain.
  • I had cysts a few times before I got pregnant. The pain I got from them was a dull, aching type of pain, I never got any sharp pains. Twice I had cysts rupture, and it was very bad pain. The first time it happened, I was doubled over in pain, I thought my appendix had burst, but it was just the cyst rupturing.
  • I had one that ruptured many years ago....the most painful thing I had ever felt before contractions.

  • I had a cyst the size of a lime about 3 years ago. It was bothersome at times and eventually burst which was super painful and uncomfortable, but no issues since then and a few months later DD was conceived.
  • this is exactly what happens to me..every month about a week before my period..I have a cyst rupture and it is sooooo painful

  • I had my first one in the 9th grade. As long as I am on birth control, they tend to stay away. However, as soon as I stop, they tend to pop back up. I have a small one now, and it makes ovulation pretty uncomfortable. Ditto the pps who mentioned how painful they are when they rupture. I ended up in the ER my freshmen year of college b/c the pain was so intense.

  • A lot of people get cysts on their ovaries but if it's causing pain, I would get another opinion. I had several large cysts on my ovary and by the time I went in, it had torsed. They had planned to untwist it but when they went in my ovary had ruptured and I lost it. This is not the norm at all but again, if it's causing you pain, get it checked.

  • I agree with others that you should get a second opinion. I had one that was the size of my doctor's fist, and his fist was big. I was shocked by the size, since my pain wasn't too bad. He did an ultrasound and decided to remove it, but before he did, it ruptured. Like pp said, it hurt like hell. I didn't know what was happening, but I called in sick and lay on the couch all day long, barely moving.

  • I just found out I have on that is 5 cm. The doc wants to surgically remove it even though it's benign
