Infertility

xp: no IVF

I just received a call from my clinic. My students are taking MCAS, so I figured I would listen to it thinking it would be my okay for IVF. Boy was I wrong. My insurance rejected the claim and is making me do more IUI this time with injectables. I believe the nurse said two. If these don't work, then it puts us in June/July for IVF and we won't be able to do it because of the damn vacation we just planned. I am totally heart broken and sitting in my back of my classroom in tears. Of course there is no one in the hall that can give me a break. I know I should be happy that I have insurance coverage at all, but I feel like IUIs are such a waste of time, especially with DH's lower sperm count. My journey just got so much longer. Crying Oh and I have no tissues left.

Re: xp: no IVF

  • I'm sorry!  My husband's insurance is in MA and I was told we'd need to do 3 injectibles IUI's before we could move on to IVF.  Then I found out they will deny me entirely due to my FSH being too high.I'm staying on my insurance in RI for that reason and paying the 20% co pay. Yes, insurance coverage is better than paying OOP but it isn't without its difficulties and frustrations due to someone dictating what you can and can't do.  I hope your vacation in June is to somewhere good! Hang in there:-)

  • I am so sorry for your news. I guess the good news is that your insurance is even an option!! I know that you are probably so ready for it all to begin now but at least there are still options. I am about to begin IVF all out of pocket, OUCH!! But I know even with my words of staying positive the inital hearing of this is disappointing. Keep your head up, it will all work out.

  • I am so sorry. That stinks. I had to pay oop for 6 cycles before I got coverage. I feel your pain.
  • I'm sorry you can't be in control of your journey...I can only imagine how hard that is, even if it does come with insurance coverage.  Big (((hugs))), and here's hoping the injectable IUIs actually do the trick...

  • I'm sorry that you're at the mercy of your insurance company/ I would ask your RE to contact them with the information that IUIs will not help your situation (and a waste of their coverage) due to your MFI.

You could always cancel your vacation or pay for your cycle OOP if cycling is truly your priority. These are options that are completely under your control.

  • I'm so sorry to hear your disappointment. The other day I was feeling down and I just said "please god, can you cut me a break?". I am not religious, but I said it out load. Ever since, things have gotten better (not pg though, but starting IVF soon). So, when all else fails, pray! I will send good thoughts your way.....I hope you feel better soon :) Plus, July is a good time to get pg b.c the baby would be born in April and then you can take the rest of the school year off and all summer!!
  • Is there a way you can bypass it?  I am in MA as well, and in order for us to go straight to IVF they needed 3 SA results with a morphology of 4% or less - look into that, especially if your husband has had several recent SAs!

(I feel your pain -  my kids were doing MCAS today too - you must be a 4th grade teacher?)

His count is just a little low.  Still normal. but low our highest post wash number was 21.

I am a 7th grade teacher.  Luckily I had a small group and she was very polite and only looked once as I sobbed.
