Low lying placenta?

Hi Ladies,

My OB called yesterday to let me know that my ultrasound revealed I have a low lying placenta. It isn't over the cervix, but it is low, so I need to go back in 6 weeks to have it rechecked. They said it could move, but they don't know for sure. I was put on pelvic rest for 6 weeks, poor DH.

Have any of you had a low lying placenta? Did it prevent you from having a vaginal birth. Did it correct itself?

Re: Low lying placenta?

  • I had one also. It had corrected itself by 36 week ultrasound and I had a normal vaginal birth. The only thing (which I'm sure the doc told you), sometimes if you do alot of activity, you might notice bleeding.

  • Yes, they did warn me that I could see blood, so to watch for it. Thank you so much for responding!

  • I had one with DD and it had corrected itself by my 28 week u/s.  No problems with a vaginal birth.

  • I had one with this pregnancy that corrected itself by 28 weeks. Apparently it's fairly common.

  • I had one also.  I read that 95% of the time this corrects itself.  Mine corrected itself with no problems.

  • I was the same as the others. It corrected itself by 28 weeks. The doctor said it usually does, so try not to worry.

  • Yes, I had one. I freaked out about it, but it resolved itself, thank God. I ended up having a C-section anyway, though. Boo.

  • I had one and I was bleeding for a few days every month (very scary), but it corrected itself and I had a normal vaginal birth. GL!
