questions about induction

So I'm supposed to get induced in the morning (If the hospital isn't busy)  and I have a million questions rushing through my head that I didn't ask my doctor and he didn't cover!  If you got induced answer me these questions:

Can I wear my contacts at ALL during my labor/delivery/hospital stay?

Can I eat breakfast before?  What can I or should I eat?

I know it seems silly... but what should I wear to the hospital?

I don't know what else... but I seem SO unprepared!  Any other advice or anything I need to know before possibly going in in the morning?

 TIA!

Re: questions about induction

  • I wore my glasses and brought my contacts with me, but never even bothered.  But I'm sure that you can wear your contacts, just bring glasses if you have them as a back up.  My dr. told me I could eat before my induction just nothing too heavy.  So I would stick with maybe oatmeal or cereal.  Maybe toast or a bagel.  I wouldn't do anything too greasy or that might upset your stomach.  I wore some yoga pants and a hoodie.  I wanted to be comfy, plus as soon as you get to the hospital you gotta get into a gown anyway.

Just try and relax and get some sleep.  Getting induced for me was a slow gradual process so they ease you into it and they explain everything.  So if you have question when you get there don't be afraid to ask them.  Good luck to you and I hope it's a quick labor!!

  • MAKE SURE YOU EAT BEFORE YOU GO TO THE HOSPITAL! They will not let you eat once you are there. I was induced to speed up my labor and my mom snuck me in pretzels because I hadn't eaten before we went to the hospital and they wouldn't let me have anything.

Wear something easy to take off because they will put you in a hospital gown immediately. I wore cotton "cheerleading" shorts and a tank top (it was like 80 degrees here)

  • The hospital where I delivered my daughter didn't allow contacts to be worn, but where I delivered my son didn't even mention it.  I chose not to wear contacts because I don't like sleeping in them and knew there would be moments when I would want to doze off or at least close my eyes for an extended period of time.

My doctor told me to eat a light breakfast.  I ate a whole wheat bagel with a little peanut butter. Drink a good amount of water since they will most likely restrict you to ice chips or small sips of water. My doula told me to bring my own water to sip instead of constantly asking for more.

I wore maternity yoga stuff to the hospital and wore the same thing home.  During delivery, I wore the hospital gown.

    Good luck!

  • I wore my contacts excepting when I was sleeping. I asked if they wanted them out, but they didn't.

Yes DEFINITELY eat breakfast beforehand.  You have no idea how long it's going to take and therefore how long you won't be able to eat.   I'd eat scrambled eggs and some whole wheat toast, and maybe even some fruit.

Where whatever you are comfortable in.  I had on a pr of jeans and a long sleeved maternity tee.

  • I wore glasses because they are more comfortable to me. Wear contacts if you want, but bring glasses in case they ask you to change them.

    EAT!

Doesn't matter what you wear... you'll put on a gown first thing anyway.

  • Wear your contacts but take your glasses just in case they have you take them out, or if you want to take them out at any time.

I was going to be induced at 6 am and was told not to eat after midnight.  I ended up going into labor on my own the night before.

I wore yoga pants and a t-shirt.  Like PP say, they change you in a gown as soon as you get there.  But I wore the same thing out of the hospital, so I didn't have to pack very much.

  • I don't wear contacts or glasses, so I have no idea there, but I was told no food or water after midnight before induction. I was starving so they gave me ice chips while I was in labor.  I wore a pair of sweatpants and a tshirt.

  • I wore my contacts the whole time, but it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to bring your glasses just in case.

Definitely eat breakfast... they may not let you eat while you're there and you're going to need your energy. I was restricted to "clear liquids" (jello, broth, popsicles, water, etc.) while I was on pitocin and I was STARVING.

It probably doesn't matter what you wear to the hospital, because they will have you put on a gown as soon as you check in.

    GL!
