Etsy feedback question

I'm a little new to the Etsy scene, but I'm wondering about the feedback situation.  I know with Ebay, feedback is really important (for both buyer and seller).  I've only made a few Etsy purchases so far.  Is it not a very big deal for a seller to leave feedback for a buyer?  Maybe a buyer's feedback status doesn't matter as much to Etsy sellers as it does to Ebay sellers.  Just curious.

Re: Etsy feedback question

  • I don't think it's a big deal since you usually pay right away, through PayPal generally.  I suppose negative feedback might indicate to a seller if you're a chronic complainer/unsatisfied customer and someone to be wary of, but they can't control who buys their product really so I don't see it as a big deal.  Have you developed an Etsy addiction yet?  I am all about Etsy and HyenaCart. :)

  • I've never had a seller leave feedback for me on Etsy, so I'd vote not that big of a deal.
  • Personally I always leave feedback for buyers.  Mostly I'm just hoping that they'll be more inclined to leave me feedback if I leave them some.  But that doesn't always work.

I have no idea whether any of it actually matters or not.

  • Thanks for the ... feedback, everyone! :-)  I always leave feedback for the seller, as I would on Ebay, too.  I just wondered why sellers don't seem to leave feedback, often.

I never got into Etsy during wedding planning, but I've found some good baby stuff!  I wish it was easier to search, though.

  • I always leave feedback either way. I'm not really sure how it would affect a buyer b/c there is nothing a seller can do about who buys their stuff. Its always great for sellers tho, because not everyone is professional/ reliable on Etsy and its a good way to judge the quality of what you are buying. I usually wait til there are a bunch of feedbacks to leave and just go thru the list, so you might still get some from sellers (....like me :))

Oh, this wasn't about you, L! :-)  I've bought about half a dozen things lately and gotten 2 feedback replies.  I was just curious about the process.

ETA:  Just happened to log in there.  Thanks! :-)

  • I could care less if people leave feedback for me (I only buy, I have nothing creative to sell).  However, I do look at a seller's feedback when I want to find out more about the quality of his/her work and whether or not I can expect it to arrive in a reasonable amount of time.  Because of that, I always leave feedback when I buy something to help both the seller and other purchasers out.
