How did you start PT?

Since my #1 choice for new DCP requires E be basically potty trained before she starts, that gives me a good month to get the basics done so all she needs is reminders. How did you start PTing? We have set her potty in the bathroom and she will sit on it with the lid down, but won't with the lid up. What is my next step? TIA for any advice!
