For those who ordered the Tori crib set from JCP...

Hi ladies!  I posted an intro a long time ago but pretty much just lurk on here and do not post.  I don't get to get online much so it is hard for me to keep up on here!  I hope you won't mind helping me out with a few questions though...

Here is the back story: I saw where a few different people have said they ordered the Tori crib set from JC Penney.  This is the nursery set that I have fallen in love with and really want to buy.  I found a coupon code for 20% off and that brings the total set down to $855 which I was thrilled about.  However, for some reason this set will not ship to store and they want to charge $305 to ship to my home and I am having a really hard time agreeing to pay that extra shipping charge.  It seems crazy!  I have called customer service about this twice and the first man I spoke with was not friendly or helpful whatsoever.  He just said there was no other option and he couldn't do anything.  The 2nd lady was much more friendly but still said she wasn't able to do anything about having it shipped anywhere other than my home.  She did say that the only piece of the set that this was an issue with was the changing tower, but when I asked if I could have them shipped separately to save on shipping she said it would not make much of a difference.  

 So here are my questions:  For those of you who purchased this set, were you able to ship to store for free and pick up there?  If so, do you mind my asking where you live or what store you shipped it to?   I thought I saw where someone said they were able to pick up the crib and dresser at the store but had the changing tower shipped to their house... can I ask how much you paid total and did you have to go in and purchase each item separately instead of purchasing the set?  Does anyone have any ideas of how to get around this?

I ordered the Tori crib from JCP last Wednesday and it was shipped to the store within 3 days (I am shocked that it is in already!) As far as the changing table goes, they told me the same exact thing. They can not ship it to the store because it is already assembled and it takes 2-3 men to carry it. They told me they could ship it directly to my house for $185 (that is just for the cost of the shipping!!!) I could not justify paying that much in shipping since my parents are buying the furniture. So as of right now, I have a crib with no changing table..not sure what I am going to do either!

I ordered the Tori in MI and was able to get all three pieces shipped to the store for free.  The first few stores I tried wouldn't accept the ship to store.  I did finally find one in MI and was able to get all three pieces shipped there.  DH and his brother picked it up in a truck without any problems. I don't know if this helps you

 Mel2000go- You are in the same boat as me!  I'm glad they told someone else the same thing though and that it is not just me.  I think the whole thing is ridiculous  

Sieberth- Do you know which store in Michigan accepted the ship to store?  I am in Ohio and I have a sister in Detroit so I wonder if we could work something out there.  That is crazy that some places will accept it and others won't.  The first guy I spoke to at customer service made it sound like this was not a possibility because it came directly from the factory or something instead of from the warehouse and that nothing from the factory could ship to the store.  Wtf?  That makes me so mad!  Thanks for your help though!

I'd just do w/o the changing table. We never bought one with DS--didn't have the space or the $$--and neither H or I have missed it. When he was little and waking up every 2-3 hrs, we were using the pnp in our room, and it has that changing table on it. By the time he grew out of that, his nighttime routine was down and we just used a regular changing pad on the floor. We won't be buying  a changing table with this one either--it's not worth it to us. Plus, no worrying about him rolling off

Thanks for the store info and I definitely will contact them again about this.  I guess that was my reasoning for posting this because I wanted to see if there was anyone out there who was able to get it shipped to the store and now I know that there is haha!  I probably won't get anywhere but it is worth a try to me  Thanks so much for your help!

SO and I went through the same thing last night.  He was on the phone for a half hour with a very nice customer service person.  With no success from her we ended up biting the bullet and are having everything sent directly to our home and paid $305.00 for shipping.  I was trying to find an extra coupon for 20% off but I don't have one that's good until 3/30 so I will be calling back to see if they will apply it.  I am just glad that we have another thing crossed off our to do list.

 What color did/are you ladies picking for the Tori?  We picked espresso.  I hope with love it.

We looked at BRU and the one we originally picked was well over $2000.00 I am so glad I saw many of you posting about JCP's baby furniture sale yesterday!

I'm actually from the July 2011 board, but I happened to stumble across this post..

We ordered the Tori crib, dresser/changer, and chest in espresso and were having the same problem before we ordered it because we didn't want to have to pay that much for shipping.

So we went to our local JCPenney store and talked to someone in customer service. They weren't technically able to take off the $300+ shipping charges, but instead they gave us a discount and prorated each furniture piece so the total came out to what it would have been without shipping, if that makes sense.
The great thing about it was, since we technically still paid "shipping" we were able to get it shipped directly to our home and not have to worry about picking it up at the store (which was nice, because we would have had to borrow a friend's truck).

So I would suggest going in person to your local JCP and see what they can do. I didn't get anywhere with the customer service people on the phone. The local store was more friendly and willing to work with us to get our business.

Here's an even better solution if you have a Burlington Coat Factory (Baby Depot) near you. There is a Crib and Dresser combo for sale there right now that looks very much like this JCP set. It is just as nice, if not nicer, than this set at JCP too! It is called Dakota by Sweet Bebe who is owned by Munire (very good brand). Crib regularly $300 and Dresser $380, but we used our 20% off coupons acquired at burlingtonsignup.com. So we got them for $240 + $304 + $0 in shipping. Good luck all!
