Working moms...a question

How much time does your child get to spend playing with their own toys?

My DD only spends about 15-30 minutes a day, at most, playing with her own toys. Of course, she spends more time than that on the weekends, but 15-30 minutes is typically all she gets during the week. The rest of the time is taken up eating, bathing, getting ready for bed, etc.

I sometimes want to buy her some new toys, but I always talk myself out of it, because she doesn't always get to play with the toys that she already has...

  • Probably between 30 minutes to one hour.  But, I only leave a few toys out, I have stored the rest in bins in her closet and switch them out every so often, then it's like a brand new toy

  • I would say about 1 hour, but that is between books, her kitchen, and a few other toys. We don't give her a bath every day, so the days she does get a bath it is shorter.

This exactly. He seems to get bored so quickly with toys and rotating them often keeps him entertained without buying new toys all the time.

  • I never really thought about it.  But I would say between 30-45 min.  Now with the weather getting somewhat nicer, we stay outside for a little and then after dinner they watch tv and play with their toys.  Though that usually consists of us reading to them.

  • 1-1.5 hours.  She is pretty content with the amount of toys that are out now, but we have tons still in the basement that I will rotate in soon and rotate a few out because she's clearly sick of them.
  • He spends atleast an hour a night playing with his own toys at our house. Our situation is a little different though because my dad watches him 4 days a week while I am at work. DS has his own toys over there, too, and spends a lot of time over there.
  • Sometimes not at all.  She likes to hang out with me in the kitchen and watch me cook dinner.  But when she does play with her toys, it's usually about 30  minutes to an hour.
  • Probably about an hour a day. It is a bummer too considering how many toys the child does have!
  • average 30-45 min... if any, she's been more interested in books lately. I play with her for an hour and then it's bathtime. So sometimes it's only me or other nights we watch tv..

I haven't bought a toy that costed more than $15, since the Leap and Frog table.. and they have a lot of toys in DC..

  • All day long!  MIL watches her and she will go from her room to the living room, dragging toys and books around.  She loves her toys and books; plays with them all the time.  After we get off work, she plays for another 2 hours.  Sometimes with us and sometimes on her own!

  • Some days not at all other days an hour or so. But that is only 3 days a week. He is home with me on Mondays and my Mom watches him on Tuesdays the he plays about 8 hours :)

  • she plays for 15-30 mins in the mornings while i'm finishing getting ready for work (all but 5 days a month) and at least an hour in the evenings 4 weeknights per week. The other mornings I'm at an early meeting and she doesn't get time to play or the other evenings I have church and she goes with me. I usually ahve some of her toys in my bag for her. On the weekends, however, she plays with her stuff all the time.
