Sterilizing Bottles

What way do you sterilize your bottles after use?  I rinse them out with the bottle brush and then usually boil a big pot of water.  I don't want to buy a sterilizer or run the dishwasher EVERYTIME.  Any other suggestions?  TIA

Hot, soapy water is enough.  They don't HAVE to be sterilzed.

  • I boil them also, I think it's the easiest and cheapest way to do it.  I know I could just wash them, but I like knowing they've been boiled so I don't need to worry if they are clean enough.

  • I use the Medela sterilizer bags for everything...bottles, pacifiers, pump accessories, etc...

You can use each bag up to 20 times in the microwave and they are relatively inexpensive.

    Love them!

  • I have an electric kettle and I just pour the boiling water in the bottle for a few min.

  • I have the Avent bottle sterilizer that goes in the microwave.  It only takes 2 minutes to sterilize six bottles and parts.

I don't trust just a bottle brush.  Brushes and sponges can collect so much bacteria.  I don't eat off of dishes that were just rinsed, so why would I do that to my baby?

  • We just have a ton of bottles so we rinse them after use and put them in the dishwasher when we get enough for a full load. We usually have about half our stash in the dishwasher and half in the cabinet.

There's this magic invention called soap.

lol. I was just thinking the same thing, I'm a bit confused by the post. Nbeseau, are you saying you don't ever eat off dishes that are handwashed? Sponges aren't perfect, I suppose, but sterilization isn't absolutely necessary in order for bottles to be clean.

OP-I don't sterilize bottles either. We  wash them by hand daily.

  • Of course I know about soap, but I don't eat off of my dishes that are just rinsed with soap and a sponge/brush.  Everything is run through the dishwasher.

  • We use the Tommee Tippee bottle sterilizer, and I really like it. While hot soapy water may be sufficient, I personally feel better when they've been sterilized.

  • Just wash them in hot water with soap daily, then every weekend we boil a pot of water and sterilize it.

We do this too. They are amazing. I felt like I was washing bottles and pump parts a million times a day and now it's sooo much better!

We do the same. I usually wash everything with the bottle brush and soap first, then sterilize it in our Avent sterilizer. I know that this is much more than I need to do, but I like to make sure that everything is clean.
