Any working moms not have a freezer stash?

Are you able to just pump enough to leave in the fridge for LO's botles?  I have some in the freezer but  was just wondering if anyone is making their return to work, work without having a freezer stash-- just fresh milk. It is good for what, 8 days in the fridge...so it might be possible...

Just curious...

  • Absolutely. I am no longer pumping, I quit pumping when DS was around 13 months, but I never used a freezer stash.  I spent too much time worrying and pumping while I was on maternity leave, had about 25 bags in my freezer but never ended up using them because I just served what I pumped the previous day.  I think a freezer stash is overrated on these boards, if your supply is fine, you should be fine just serving what you pump.   Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have for extra security, but don't stress to do it.

this exactly. I had a freezer stash in the begining, my ILs (they watch DD) burned through it pretty quickly until I realized that they were over feeding DD (she'd squeak and they'd feed her).  Now she just gets what I pump.  I am able to pump about an oz a day extra so I save those up and freeze them.  I have a modest freezer stash because of it, but don't stress over it.

  • I have 5oz in the freezer.  Never had more then 12.  I pump what I need for the next day.

  • I have never been able to freeze a single ounce of breastmilk. I am lucky to get 8 ounces a day of pumped milk, which means my baby is supplemented with formula every day.

I would like to be able to pump enough to give to my baby all day long, let alone freeze for later! I envy the women on this board who can pump more than 2 ounces at a time.

  • Me!  I have none in the freezer; I'm lucky to pump enough for the next day.  The domperidone has been wonderful since I started back to work because I can pump exactly 12 ounces total between one morning and the next.  We are squeaking by.  I used to give him formula to supplement, but we've finally been able to quit that for now.  Whatever I pump on Friday, I save for Monday's feedings.

  • Thanks ladies!

I probably have 40oz in the freezer right now, but I've been pumping once a day and that gives me about 2.5 -3 bottles worth of feeds, which we use up in a day or two. He only gets 1-2 bottles/day just to get used to them, which he takes no problem! I mainly have the bottles prepared for when we go out and about or for when my boobs need a break!

I haven't touched the freezer stash yet but im thinking I should start so that it doesn't go bad..

But so glad to know you can work and not have one!  I do think I'll just give fresh milk instead of frozen, but maybe I'll make a little freezer stash if I have extra..

  • I have a stash but I'm saving it for weekend trips. I rotate a bottle of fresh in every few days to keep it from getting too old but I don't need it for work.
  • I only have 6 oz in the freezer. I'm able to keep up and send the milk I pump the next day.  If I'm ever short an oz or two, I add a pumping session in before bed.

This EXACTLY! Today I pumped two ounces and I almost cried from happiness.
