Onesie and blanket question

The below post about clothes got me thinking about onesies and swaddling blanket registering.

For those with alot of baby shower experience I am wondering if I should even register for these. I feel like when I go to baby showers everyone seems to buy a gift and then throw in 1-3 onesies or blankets.

I am not sure if those were registered for or not, but I was wondering about your experience with this?

I am thrill that people are willing to give us gifts for this shower, but also would prefer not to walk out of the shower with 100 cute onesies because I got what I registered for and then some.

Re: Onesie and blanket question

  • I would skip registering for them.  Frankly, they're not the most expensive thing you'll need, so even if you don't get any, you can buy them later.  While both are infinitely useful, I'd not worry about it.  Thant being said, if you see some cute baby clothes you love, go ahead and throw them on.  It's a good present that's on the cheaper end of the spectrum for people.

  • I would not register for blankets, towels, onesies, toiletries (gift baskets of lotions and cleansers)  burp clothes and hand towels.  I registered for all those and got way too many.  I had 17 blankets right after my shower and that's way too many.
  • I did not register for onesies or blankets. I still had tons of them.  My mom alone gave me 10 receiving blankets.  She even laughed when she gave them to me and said they were so cheap and cute that she just picked them up and realized after the fact that there were 5 to a pack.  The pack was so small she didn't think to look at the number of actual blankets inside but assumed it was less.  So I would say don't register.  Not to mention I feel like those items change inventory a lot and cause people looking at the registry more headache looking for items that are now out of stock.

  • I registered for onesies with my first and got plenty of them but not really the ones I registered for.

  • I wouldn't bother.  I didn't find regular swaddling blankets all that useful anyway, so I think that 4 are sufficient.  Take a few from the hospital if you don't think you get enough :) You'll get lots of onesies.  If not, they're a dime a dozen on CL or at consignment stores.

I wouldn't register for clothes at all.  Things in stock change so frequently that the items you register for probably won't be available when people go to buy gifts.  Also, if you've ever bought things off a registry, you know how hard it is to find the one outfit that the parents registered for in a sea of baby clothes.  I don't even try.

  • Now that Target carries Aden+Anais I'd register for them, and possibly also some swaddle "wrap" type things, like the Kiddopotomus SwaddleMe and/or Miracle Blanket.  Those are all WAY more practical than the dozens of receiving blankets you'll probably get that are too small for swaddling past a few weeks anyway (though they do work great as burp cloths.)

  • I don't think you need to register for onsies or blankets.  I did register for swaddling blankets, and by that I mean the ones with velcro specially shaped for swaddling.  Actually, we registered for the Halo ones, and love them!
