Breakfast before daycare?

DD is about to start DC next week and I'm a litte unsure about to do for breakfast. Usualy DD eats a bottle when she wakes at 6:30ish, but doesn't have a solid meal until 9:00ish.Those of you that send your lo to daycare do you feed them solids before being dropped off or do they eat it there? This probably sounds like a stupid question, but I'm am cluless about daycare and every minute counts in the morning lol.

Re: Breakfast before daycare?

  • Yes. My daycare doesn't provide breakfast. but i can bring the breakfast in and i think they will feed her.  Anyhow, I give oatmeal most of the time.  Or a yogurt. Or a nutrigrain bar with a yogurt.

  • Our in-home daycare provides baby food and formula so I usually wake LO right before we're ready to leave (around 7:3o - 8) and give her a 4oz. bottle and that's it.  She usually eats her solids around 9am.

  • We get to daycare around 8:30am and they feed him his breakfast (cereal with fruit) @ 9:00am.  He has a bottle @ 6am/whenever he wakes up.

  • Definitely check with your child care provider - they'll definitely have a policy around meals as well as a schedule of when meals are served.

I nurse DD when she wakes up (6ish) and she eats breakfast and has a bottle of BM at child care around 8:45.  Our provider participates with the CACFP so all food is provided.

  • I have always fed her breakfast before daycare (right after her bottle when she wakes up @ 7), but I have decided now to let them feed her breakfast at daycare at 8:30. She just isn't hungry enough to eat very much at 7 & now we won't have to be so rushed in the mornings either.
  • We feed solids right away and then she gets dressed. Right before DH takes her to DC he gives her a bottle. How many oz. depends on how well she ate her solids.

  • Day care offers to feed him breakfast but I really enjoy that part of our morning, so I feed him breakfast before we hed out! usually everything is ready to go and he is dressed etc and I take 20 min to feed him!
  • DS gets nursed when he wakes up at 6:30ish.  He gets to daycare around 7:30, and I think they feed him breakfast around 8:30.

Once he is on cow's milk, I'm not sure if we'll just give him milk before DC, or if we'll feed him.  He's so darn slow feeding himself, we might not have time to give him breakfast.

  • I'm glad you asked this, we are in the same boat. She eats her cereal and fruit around 9am now but we will need her to eat before daycare (they only have a mid-morning snack since we won't drop her off until 8:30) I'm trying to phase in her breakfast earlier and earlier. I guess we will give a bottle at 7 and then breakfast around 7:45.

  • Jeanne gets a morning bottle of 5 oz at 6:30. I drop her off at daycare at 7. She gets her breakfast then. Daycare takes care of breakfast, snack, lunch, and snack. I still send Jeanne's food, but Ms. Theonna feeds her there.

It's not a stupid question. It's gonna be up to you and your routine. What time are you taking her to daycare? If you send her at 7:30/8, and she doesn't eat till 9, then send her food with her. She may later want to eat earlier, and you just adjust around her needs.

  • My daycare provides lunch and snacks for LO, but not breakfast.  Once he's on more "grown up food" she'll offer breakfast, but doesn't do the baby cereal/fruit that we're doing right now.
  • about half the parents at our DC send breakfast in and half feeed at home. We leave a box of cereal there and we fill up one of the bottles more and they use that bottle to put milk into the cereal.

  • He eats there. He wakes around 8 and gets to daycare at 8:30 so that's when he eats. They actually serve breakfast 7-8 but they set it aside for him. He doesn't take a bottle in the morning either.

  • I wasn't doing breakfast before daycare, just a bottle, until Liam was recently on a round of antibiotics.  I had to give them to him with food and the bottle didn't cut it so I started giving him half a banana or something when he first woke up so I could give him his medicine.

Now he won't take a bottle until he's had his snack so he basically eats two breakfasts now (one at home and one at daycare) and doesn't finish his first morning bottle.  I figure he knows when he's hungry and when he's full so it's no big deal.

If your LO isn't accustomed to eating food right away then I wouldn't change things and just let daycare feed her the solids when it's time for her breakfast.
