Egg allergies and shots

So DD had her 1st year shots last Friday. Poor girl, she had vomit Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and small rash in the neck.

We were suspecting she had allergy to eggs, so we are asuming this was a confirmation of it.

So, for those ho have LOs with allergies, do you had the same reaction. Did you take other precautions. Would you think it was something else?

TIA

Re: Egg allergies and shots

  • My son has an egg allergy. He had redness (more than the norm) in the injection site a few hours later. We called our pedi as instructed, and gave him benadryl every 6 hours for 24 hours

  • This is the wierd thing, supposedly Keira is super allergic to eggs but when she got her shot, there were no problems.  So, we are going to see an allergist next week and ask about it.

Same thing here.  DS is allergic as well, but no reaction from the shots.  His pediatrician said this is quite common.

  • Jacob gets an all over body rash from eggs, and we first found that out with his 6m Flu shot. I would get the skin allergy test to confirm so you can test for the other food allergies as well.

  • DS is allergic to eggs.  The only shots that have been a concern for his allergy are the flu shot.  He had to get that at the allergist for his first dose to make sure he didn't react.  There may be other shots that are a concern, but I don't think so.  They always tell me which shots they're giving me and that none have any connections to his egg allergy.

FWIW - He did totally 100% fine with his flu shots.  (He got one at the allergist and the second at the pedi with the allergist's permission.)  He is definitely allergic to eggs and has a reaction from some (but not all) egg products like mayo, ranch dressing, scrambled eggs, etc.

  • My allergist said most kids are just fine getting the flu shot even with an egg allergy. The reason is the eggs are processed in a way where it is not the same as eating an egg.
