How do you get them to take cold milk?

We're done with formula.  Hooray!

But, I still have to warm the friggin milk and I hate it.

Also, when out and about and it's bottle time what do you do?  I always had a thermos of hot water and my formula dispenser for bottles while out, but I'm not sure how to work this milk drinking in public situation.

  • Good question...We are hoping to do the transition in a week or so once we get the OK from our GI and DS needs his bottles so warm.

  • For awhile we always warmed it and then I started just barely warming the daytime bottles and now I just don't.  I still warm the night time bottle because I think it helps her relax :-)

  • the first week or so, i would barely warm the milk in his sippy, just enough to take the chill off and gradually had it be colder and then i kept giving it with meals and now he loves it. I do warm his night bottle though. He loves it

I've been trying to do this same thing but once they reach a certain temperature that he decides is too cold he just throws it on the floor and I feel like we are back to square one. I guess we will just keep trying.

  • I just gave it to her cold and she drinks it. She does like her night-time milk warmed though.

Maybe you could "wean" them off the warm milk? Gradually decrease the warmth over a few weeks time?

  • We still warm DS's milk. When we go out, we just bring sippy cups of water.

  • My DS is very picky when it comes to his milk.  We went cold turkey giving up bottles.  I went two weeks and he refused to drink milk out of a sippy cup. I found it very hard to supplement his diet with dairy/calcium so I gave in and warmed the milk that went into the sippy cup and he drank it.  So now if I'm going to be out, if I'm close to a starbucks or coffee shop, I'll order steamed milk.  Otherwise I'll make sure he gets an extra serving of dairy in his diet that day.
