Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Paci ?

Leighton has never taken the paci except for naps and bedtime and now all of a sudden she is wanting it when she gets upset, bumps her head, etc...like all the time now.  Has anyone else noticed this happening as their LO got older.  Just when I was thinking that it might not be hard to wean her in a few months, now she is using it all the time...UGH!!

Re: Paci ?

  • YES!! This is us exactly. She only ever took it during naps/bedtime and in the car and now she wants it all the time, it seems. We don't give in - and if she absolutely insists on it (she will climb up her crib wanting to get to them), I tell her that it's only for night-night time and she'll either walk up or I'll lay her down. Kicker is that I've picked her up a couple of times from Daycare with her walking aroudn with one in her mouth! UGH! pisses me off. so i have to constantly tell them NO PACI OUTSIDE OF SLEEPING.

  • yep, Emmie used hers only for naptimes & bed.  She also would ONLY take a soothie paci, but she found some old nuk newborn pacis in her toys & has started using those too b/c I keep her paci in her bed & in the car.  I don't offer her one while she's just playing.  I was actually thinking about this the other day.  I may not ween her until after I switch her to a toddler bed.  But then again do I want her to have a paci that long?  IDK....it's a tough call!
  • my son tried this many times, lif he finds one then he puts it in his mouth. we always said, NO< Paci for sleep, bye bye paci and that was it, even if he cried. When we started daycare they gave it to him sometimes when he was awake but that stopped right away. i think it's just them seeing it wit other kids

  • Yup.  Well, I never figured weaning would be easy considering it's what he basically uses to fall asleep... but he did start wanting it ALL the time after originally just using it for naps and bedtime.  Kinda sucks, lol.  But oh well...
