Bathtime Troubles

Has anyone else had problems with their babies when they learned to pull up with bathtime?

Hudson used to love bathtime.  Now he tries every way to try and get out!  It makes it hard to get him soaped down but also scares the crap outta me thinking about a slip and fall.

I try and redirect him to his bath toys but that only works for so long.  DH about flipped on me last night when i was at work and he tried to do bathtime and Hudson did the same routine to him.

Any suggestions?

Re: Bathtime Troubles

  • DD does this as well. I wash her hair, back, tummy and arms first while she is sitting and playing with her toys. Then I lay her down to wash her legs, girly parts and feet. While I am doing this I try to distract her by singing or giving her a new toy - the whole process is extremely fast. Once she is washed, she will sit and play for a couple minutes, but as soon as she starts to pull up, I start draining the tub and pull her out.

DS loves to flail, stand and submerge himself during bathtime.  I need a Xanax to make it through.  Add our small dog jumping in the tub to share in the fun and you have our routine.

It is a 2 person job right now.  DH washes and I hold him and distract him with a toy.

Oh yikes!  We haven't had to break out the other person yet, which is good because often one of us is working an odd schedule and have to do it alone anyway.

  • I am right there with you! DD sits for maybe 30 seconds. It terrifies me. We have glass shower doors, so we have a metal track on the edge of the tub, I just know she's going to hit her chin or head or something on that track! I'm looking into getting one of those seats with the suction cups on the bottom. I'm not sure if it will do us any good at this point though.
  • Bath seats were a must for me b/c I have twins and I usually bathe the boys by myself, BUT I would strongly recommend a bath seat... they can't stand up and my boys don't even try.  We got ours for a decent price on amazon.  Good luck.

  • Yep. Were in the same boat as you. I offer new toys and sing the "patty cake song" b/c that makes DS clap his hands which gets his mind off trying to pull up. Baths are alot shorter and faster than they use to be.

I never thought about this.  Thank you for the suggestion!

This is what I have been having to do!  Bathtime used to be about 15 minutes and now is only about 5.

  • LO does this but isnt really bad with it. when she starts to stand up i say "nope! butts in the tub!" and she sits back down. i do let her stand and hold on to the side when i wash her so she gets it out of her system.

  • This has happened to us a few times, but not right away.  She gets washed and plays with her toys but as soon as she starts to stand up I drain the tub and get her out.

  • I ended up getting a bath seat due to the standing issue.  In the beginning I was his bottom first and then put him in the seat.  He loves to kick his feet and splash around.  Having a seat helps out a lot.
