Tanning?

OK so I obviously know that you cant go tanning while your pregnant...I had planned to try a spray tan but read some articles that it wasnt recommended while pregnant due to inhaling chemicals and the chemicals seeping into your skin possibly affecting the baby - so that kind of freaks me out...however, I have a wedding almost every weekend for the next month straight and I am crazy pale - so what Im wondering is, do any of you have any experience with any at home bronzing lotions or sunless tanners that do not turn you orange and make you look like an oompa loompa??

Re: Tanning?

  • I asked my OB about this at my last appt and he said once you're out of the first tri, sunless tanning is fine, whether you do a spray tan or tanning lotion (they have alot of chemicals too, fyi).  He said the amount of chemicals that are actually absorbed into your system are so minute it's insignificant to the baby.  He said it was all fine as long as I wasn't drinking it Wink

I plan on being outside as much as possible to get a natural tan, but I figure I'm still going to have to do something 'fake' at some point.  So I'm also interested to see what others have used that they like.  A friend of mine spray tanned while she was pg and it looked great, so I think I might do that before beach trips and other big events.

  • I ordered gradual tanning lotion from Mary Kay but I'm just terrified that I'm going to end up some obscene shade of orange b/c of the crazy pregnancy hormones. (And that would be horrible b/c I'm the first one to make fun of oompa loompa women....)

  • I'd use bronzer - I suck so much at putting on self-tanner that it always looks terrible and I can't go get a spray tan because I'm pretty worried about all the chemicals.

Try Perfekt Body Perfection Gel - it works wonders for me!

  • I posted this on a second tri thread about tanning, so I'll add it here too. Also, the chemicals from sunless tanning products only stay on the top layer of skin, and do not get absorbed into the blood stream.....so it won't hurt the baby.

I use Loreal's Sublime Bronze tanning wipes. They are AMAZING, and that's coming from someone who tanned in a bed for years. I gave the beds up two years ago, switched to these and never looked back.

They are wipes that you wipe down your body with after a shower, and within an hour or so, you have color. You can keep applying them each day to reach the color you want. It does take a little practice to not get streaks, but it only took me a few times to learn how to do it "right." Love them!

  • I used the L'Oreal Sublime Bronze lotion when I was pregnant with DD.  It looks natural, but its a pain in the butt to keep up on it (at least I think so.)  I'm still gonna do it this summer though.  Being tan makes me feel less fat  :)

Ditto this! My Dr. said the same thing. I also can;t wait for warmer weather to get some rays. I won't be laying out or anything, but a little sunshine never hurt anyone.
