good morning ladies! I was just wondering.. my LO is 16 months and I was thinking, when did every start introducing peanut butter? And how did you go about it? TIA!
He was about 10 months and had half of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. My mom is a nurse and was with us, just in case he got an allergy she would know what to look for more then I did.
DS started at 9 months because he needed the fat. We put it on crackers at the time.
"Normal day, let me be aware of the treasured day you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart...let me hold you while I may."
The newish recommendations/studies are saying that it doesn't matter when you give your child a food - if he/she is going to be allergic, waiting won't make a difference.
That said, I was very leery about giving Natalie peanutbutter simply because of her history and my history, so I waited until she was 18months old......no particular reason. Our pediatric dietitian recommended that if I was worried about allergies to just spread a little on her cheek and see what happens. I did that and she broke out in hives within seconds.
For some other reason, I probably won't wait as long with Dominic.
I've been thinking about offering it to him so I'm glad for this post. We have no history of any food allergies and so far neither has DS so I shouldn't be as nervous about it as I have been. I think we might try a little today.

just 2 weeks ago. on an apple slice. he had an allergic reaction. (eggs also) and went for further allergy testing. i dont really know if there is a "proper" age to give it.. i think if they're allergic, it doesn't matter what age. just watch for a reaction when you do give it!!
