  • is this the Plan-B pill? If so, I took it once and felt no side effects.

  • Do you remember if it effected your future periods? Im just nervous because there is of course alot of literature out there that isn't favorable for plan B.
  • I took it once awhile ago, and I only felt a little sick to my stomach. It didn't affect my period, though.

I imagine it's possible that your period may not be "on schedule" next time, but I dont know.

A lot of people think plan b is the abortion pill, which it isn't, so of course there is a lot of negative info out there.

Are you on birth control regularly?

  • I took it once and I did not have any side effects.  I also got a normal period on schedule.

  • Yeah, I took it once in high school even though I doubt I really needed to but I was freaked out and knew nothing about my own body, haha.

ETA: I don't think it affected my periods but it was so long ago that I guess I wouldn't really remember if it did or not.

A friend of mine literally didn't talk to me for months because she said it was the abortion pill. Way to kick me when I'm down! Needless to say we aren't friends anymore. From the research I read, my laymen's terms in describing it is it dries up as much semen as it can, but if one already implanted in an egg then it will not cancel that pregnancy, just decrease the chances of actually getting pregnant.

I think it's sad she would have dropped you for having an abortion (I understand it's not).  Not a good friend

Which is exactly why "I broke up with her" lol...she tried talking to me a few months later and her words were "I forgive you". Even if I would have had an abortion, I would need support and a friend...neither of which she was offering. I don't support abortion but in some cases I can understand how it's their option, and I would never judge someone that has had one.

  • My period came early (a few days after I took it).

But the next periods were normal.

lol  I had no idea that's how it worked.  I thought that it flushed out the uterine lining sooner (hence, it forces you to have a period) so that if an egg was fertilized, it didn't implant.

  •   I think we are both right depending on which brand....lol  How do the PREVEN? emergency contraceptive pills prevent pregnancy?
PREVEN? can stop or delay ovulation (the release of an egg), it can stop sperm from fertilizing an egg if it was already released, and it can stop a fertilized egg from attaching to the wall of the uterus."
Source: https://www.drugs.com/mtm/preven-ec.htmlHow Does Plan B? Work?
Plan B? (levonorgestrel) may prevent pregnancy by temporarily stopping the release of an egg from a woman's ovary, or it may prevent fertilization. It may also prevent a fertilized egg from attaching to the uterus. "
    Source: https://www.go2planb.com
    1. The normal menstrual cycle is altered, delaying ovulation; or
    2. Ovulation is inhibited, meaning the egg will not be released from the ovary;
    3. It can irritate the lining of the uterus (endometrium) so as to inhibit implantation.
/ForConsumers/AboutPlanB/HowItWorks.aspx (that info seems to be from a Pro-Life website,   https://www.morningafterpill.org/how-does-it-work.html) The actual websites didn't offer much info that I could find.

  • Ahh, I see... so they do one or a combo of those three things but which one or combo it actually does is a toss up? LOL  That's really weird/interesting.  I guess it depends on the point at which you actually take the pill as to what it actually does.  Makes sense.

It works exactly like regular birth control pills work.  Birth control pills first of all attempt to stop ovulation.  If that doesn't work, they help prevent a fertilized egg from implanting into the uterus.

So IF you believe that life begins at the time of conception, when the egg is fertilized, (as opposed to the time of implantation), then the morning after pill (or birth control pills, or the IUD) would be an "abortion pill".  If you believe that you must have implantation (and thus hcg hormones and a positive pregnancy test), then it is not an "abortion pill".

But again, if you believe the morning after pill is an abortion pill, then you are anti- birth control pills or IUDs as well (this would be most strictly practicing Catholics).

  • I took it once. It made me sick as a dog and I spent the day in the bathroom. My periods was on time though.
  • "Abortion pill" = RU-486

"Morning after pill" = Plan B

RU-486 terminates a pregnancy, plan B prevents ovulation and/or implantation.  A lot of people get these confused.

  • I took it and it threw off my cycle.  Basically I had 2 periods in one month.  It did not make me sick though

  • I'm obviously in the minority hear but I took it once several years ago and it totally f'd up my cycles.  If I remember right I got my period once a few days after taking it but then I didn't get another period again.  After 8 months of waiting (and taking about 100 HPT's - which were all negative) I started BC to restart my period and I bled on and off for over 6 weeks.  It was awful!  Not trying to scare you or anything but just wanted to let know that bad experiences do happen, even though I appear to be in the minority.
  • I took it once a while back and had a period for 11 days. Surprise
