Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

DD2 has croup. :(

Ugh, poor baby. She sounds so hoarse, and the cough is awful.

We were up until like 2 a.m. with her, trying to get her fever down from 103.5, on the phone with the on-call nurse and debating whether to take her to urgent care right then. But we got the fever down, the cough subsided, and I took her in late this morning instead.

She got a dose of steroids to help with the inflammation and seems to be feeling a bit better. But her little cry is so pathetic. She slept in my arms on the couch last night, and will probably do the same night.

Sad babies are so miserable! And I've got the same horrid cold that turned into croup for her, so I'm not doing all that hot myself. I just hope that we don't pass it on to DD1 and DH.

If your baby has had croup, how long did it take for them to feel better?

  • No advice. Just-- I am so sorry. It sounds miserable but that you are coping as best as you can! Hang in there!

  • DS had the cough for about 3-4 days. He got it on a Saturday night and was well enough to back to DC on Wednesday.

  • Mine had the cough for almost 2 weeks.  We gave him the steriods for I think 3 days (this was 5 months ago).  Also, they recomended a humidifier at night, but for us it seemed to make his symptoms worse.  Hope he feels better soon.

  • awww i feel your pain. my DD had it when she was about 9 months. she sounded like a seal when she coughed. thank goodness the steroids were a quick fix. i hope your little one gets healed quick. keep giving her that extra loving.
  • I'm sorry :(

DD2 just had it last weekend. It was no fun! She had a high temp (read 105 and 104.5 but I don't think it was actually that high) and the on-call doc said to just keep her comfortable and we didn't need to bring her in (she was already on antibiotics for an ear infection). It was probably 3-4 days before she was doing better, but really only one night was bad where we were up with her all night. We kept a humidifier running in her room and gave her motrin and that seemed to help.

Hope your DD is better soon and you all get some sleep tonight!
