Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

F/U to sick 19 month old...

Called the on call dr at our pediatrician's office.  He suggested offering less liquid more often (as opposed to a half full sippy)...and just a few bites of food - even if he seems hungrier.  If it persists, we are supposed to go to the Children's hospital.  He really pushed that I should try to get him to keep some liquids down because if I brought him in with his symptoms, they will probably do an IV.

So, we are on close watch for the next few hours and if no wet diapers or still crying without tears - it is off to the ER for us.

  • I'm suprised they didn't say to bring him in and get checked. Dehydration can happen quickly, and can be very serious in LOs. I went back and read your first post. Pedialyte taste really gross. I would offer Gatorade (which has all the things you are looking for in Pedialyte), and just water it down. That's what a nurse told me to do once DD was past the age of 1. Gatorade tastes way better and is totally safe. Also, you could try popsicles - mostly water and a bit of sugar (good in this situation if he isn't eating). AT least it is something your DS would eat slowly and probably be less likely to throw it up.
