I have tried just about everything to get him to eat veggies, different kinds, hiding them, cooking them differently. The only way he we will eat them is puree's (which he is getting to big for) mixed in with yogurt. Any others have this issue, what have you tried that helped? TIA
Re: My kid hates veggies, please help!
Veggie waffles (or pancakes). We discovered early on that my son loves waffles. So, I mixed my leftover veggie purees in waffle batter and made a whole bunch and froze them. They're great for any meal or a snack.
Also, keep offering regular steamed veggies. My son didn't want them at all for a long time so we'd give him a few at every meal and now he'll finally eat them.
Oh, and he also eats veggie purees in quesadillas, I usually use squash in there, and it's not even pureed, just mashed. It's actually really delicious, I eat the other half for my lunch.
I agree with this! We just continue to put the veggies on his plate and he started eating them.
This is a great idea!!!! Thanks!
does he like pasta/rice? you could use pureed veggies as sauces on those things.
i have the opposite food issue, my daughter will eat pretty much any vegetable but doesn't like pasta or bread.
How old is he?
I would try to mix it in with some rice (we bought the wild rice frozen things that come with carrots, corn etc) and then added other veggies like peas etc. He LOVES rice, so he would eat it. Might be somewhere to start.
I would keep offering them and let him get used to having them served. There are some great recipes on Weelicious that have veggies in the main dish that we have tried. My son really liked the cheesy turkey mini meatloaf. That had bell pepper, carrot, onion, and zucchini. My husband and I enjoyed them also!
I read the Ellyn Satter book How to Get Your Kid to Eat, But Not Too Much and recommend it. It was a fast read, too.
Have you tried a lot of different veggies? I suggest you keep offering a variety of different veggies, those that you don't even normally keep in the house and even those you don't like. You never know what he'll be drawn to. DD has developed her favorites--broccoli, cauliflower, raw carrots (she has most of her teeth so she can eat these), and sometimes cucumbers. I've found that the broccoli and cauliflower have to be cooked very thoroughly (she likes them really soft) and she seems to especially like it when they are flavored with teriyaki sauce (Green Giant makes this frozen that is already seasoned) but she'll eat them plain too.
I also put onions in a lot of foods I cook and she doesn't seem to have a problem with them, it's a good way to get her used to the taste.
Oh, and probably the best advice I can give is to feed your LO the fruit or veggie FIRST before giving him the entree--if he's hungry and has no other option, he might just dig in! Works for DD most of the time!
DS is picky too. He will eat black beans warmed or in quesidillas. Brocolli is easy to hide in quesidillas as well. I've thrown frozen spinach in when making smoothies before and you really can't taste it. Have you tried baking squash with butter and a little brown sugar?
He loves carrots cooked with soups or a roast so they have a lot of flavor. He won't eat them steamed. All of my kids have also really loved sweet potato fries... cut up a potato into fry size wedges and mix with olive oil. I prob use 1 TBSP for 2 potatoes and put some cinnamon in there as well. Cook about 30 min at 400. They save well in fridge too and you can reheat.
All my kids love pumpkin pancakes. These also keep well in the fridge and freeze well. I use this recipe...
