I had gotten an applesauce pouch but it was 2.5 oz and I wasn't sure if I could get it past security with the 3 oz max ( I wasn't sure if it was a 3oz total or per item b/c things were confusing at the airport and I was too lazy to do a ton of research). So i brought a couple of minimally crumbling crackers and that worked great. We did some grapes, too, and she loved that.
We got DD a brand new soft straw like sippy cup for the airplane. And I don't usually give DD juice but I wanted her to suck on the drink when her ears hurt during landing (take off was much easier on hers and my ears for some reason)
Can I recommend something not-food related for the airplane? Try to get the bulkhead seats if you can. They're the seats right behind first class. I didn't buy a seat for DD and kept her as a lap infant. But the two flights we had bulkhead seats she could play on the floor infront of me when the seatbelt sign was off. I wish I'd known this before flying b/c it was a lifesaver when she wasn't tired enough to nap. It was also nice because we were able to get off the plane first!
I am taking DS on an airplane by myself this week. I am bringing cheerios in his snack trap--that will keep him busy for a while. Also, maybe a string cheese and some kind of not-too-messy fruit.
I also got him a new coloring book, small box of crayons, and a new board book. Plus, I'll bring some of his favorite books from home. I'm so nervous. The last time I flew with him he was only 9 months old, and he slept the whole way both flights.
Have you ever tired Gerber snack wheels? my DD really likes them but they take her awhile to eat b/c they're kind of hard. she can't gobble them down like puffs or cheerios.
DD loooves veggie sticks like these. You can buy them at most grocery stores, Trader Joes, etc. They are crunchy like chips, but not quite as unhealthy (but don't be fooled, they're definitely chips, not so much veggies They are my go to snack in desperate situations.

Have a good trip.
I actually disagree about the bulkhead. The extra space is nice, but you can't have *any* bags by your feet, everything must go in the overhead. It's such a pain trying to juggle a kid, some snacks, and a few books/toys without having anywhere to stash anything. I suppose it'd be different if LO had their own seat, but if youre flying with them on your lap, the bulkhead is a huge pain.
As far as snacks, I'd stick with crackers or string cheese or non messy fruit. I could see the sucker being a huge sticky mess.

We got some dehydrated apple crisps for our son at Costco today and they are a lot less messy than some snacks that he enjoys and they don't have any added sugar. I like the texture of them because they are easy for him to bite. We also give raisins (plain or yogurt covered) and strawberry yogurt Cheerios.
We flew about a week and a half ago.. we found that manipulative things were helpful (raisins, dried fruit, cereal, etc) because it also served as something to keep her busy as she ate them one.at.a.time
Where you going? Someplace great?? It's cold and snowy here so I'm traveling vicariously through the internet :P
