Anyone have a recommendation for a good toddler swim vest? We are heading to Orlando in May and my son will almost be 21 months when we go. Most swim vest reviews say that they shouldn't be used for beginners because they tilt the toddlers' body into a horizontal position to encourage swimming. Should I just get the arm floaties or an inflatable tube? I'm confused! Any help is appreciated.
Re: Toddler swim vests
We had this one last summer (in the infant size) and plan to buy a toddler/child size this summer. https://www.amazon.com/Stohlquist-Nemo-Infant-Life-Vest/dp/B002ZM4BOW/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1301256598&sr=8-19
It's great because the foam padding is not as huge and bulky it is in other vests we tried, and therefore he could actually sit upright while wearing it.
How much does your son weigh? You should definitely not get arm floaties for a 21month old who isn't comfortable in the water, IMO.
If you think he'll be under 30lbs he can use this one and it will keep his head out of the water: https://www.amazon.com/Stearns-Infant-Superhero-Squad-Jacket/dp/B003649ZTY/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1301256404&sr=8-14
If he knows how to keep his head up you could do a child vest: https://www.amazon.com/Stearns-Childs-Classic-Boating-Vest/dp/B000NV7QB2/ref=sr_1_23?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1301256600&sr=1-23
or a puddle jumper: https://www.amazon.com/Stearns-Puddle-Jumper-Deluxe-Jacket/dp/B003648OQY/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1301256600&sr=1-1
Either way, it's not like you won't be with him the whole time so any of those should do.
