2nd Trimester

Runners out there....please come in!

Is anyone else still running? How many weeks are you? Are you comfortable?

I am still running 1-2 times per week but my pace is just so incredible slow! I don't mind, but I'm wondering if it will get better or if I should switch it up to another sport like swimming. I was hoping to till at least 20 weeks, it's getting nice out and I love being outdoors. I only run like 3-4 miles at a time at a very slow pace. But it's definitely taking more out of me than when I was non-preg.

I'd love to hear what your experiences are. And if this is your second, when did you stop running with your first. TIA!

  • I can still run a little, but I feel like I run like a duck!  The distance is def. shorter than pre-preg.  I say just listen to your body, and don't push yourself.  Excerise is good, but don't over do it.

  • I'm 13 weeks along, and am still running 3-4 miles a day. I slowed down my pace quite a bit, but it has been the only thing that has kept me from feeling nauseaus. I am hoping to continue throughout my pregnancy, and according to my doctor, as long as it feels good, I can. My mom who is a marathoner told me she was able to keep running until about 25 wks with all of us. She said it became really uncomfortable, and her balance felt off when her belly started to really grow. I have had to buy new really supportive Nike sports bras to keep the girls from bouncing, and my running pants are getting tighter by the day...I will probably have to go on a little shopping trip soon!

  • HI :) I am 14.3 weeks and I still run just about every day for 40-60 minutes. I have noticed that lately I pace down and/or walk quickly for a few minutes.  I am hoping to do it as long as possible, too. I also have an elliptical that I will most likely transition to, but there is nothing better than a nice run :)

     Good Luck!

  • Hello,  22 weeks 5 days, ran a 5k yesterday.... (they had an awesome buffet, perfect for a pregnant lady at the end!)     I'm a bit slower but am still able to go for sure.  Listen to your body though.... I'm hoping to do another 5k in 2 weeks, we'll see how I'm feeling then!      Good luck!
  • Well it sounds like I am the only one who doesn't run anymore Indifferent I was running 4 miles a day.  During the 1st trimester, due to exhaustion, I ran 1-2 every other day.  Now I'm at zero.  I'm not running anymore because I have this pee sensation everytime I attempt it!  I have all the energy in the world now that I'm in the 2nd trimester but the second I start running, I feel as if I'm going to wet myself and then the second I stop running, it's gone. It's the craziest thing!  So now I just walk, which is BORING!!  Who knew lol  It's not fun at all.

  • I'm still running 3 miles twice a week.  If I don't walk for about 1/3 of it, then I'm in pain the rest of the day.  I'll probably continue to walk more and run less as the weeks go by.

  • I run four times a week between 3 and 4 miles per run. I still feel totally fine.  My long-term goal is to run until 32 weeks for a road race but who knows if that is at all realistic.

I don't run fast though- I run between 9 and 10 min mile pace. (but i wasn't going much faster not- pregnant, i am just slow!)

I actually really like it and feel good. last pregnancy i stopped running very early and so far feel a lot better. I just don't get in a good workout on the elliptical. I think i am too lazy!

  • Still running at 16 weeks, well, I guess its more of a death trot lol. I still feel good, so I hope I can keep running for a bit longer.  I wouldn't worry about your pace that will slowly come back to you after wards.  Just praise yourself being pregnant and running!!

Glad to hear that other ppl feel like they are peeing the whole time they run.  I have a detour run where a I pass a McDonalds where I can run in and use the facilities.  The only time I step foot in to a McDonalds lol.  Keep up the great work ladies!!!

  • I'm not running anymore either and so bummed about it.  I used to do 3-5 miles every other day and a long run on Saturdays or Sundays but I absolutely can't do it anymore.  I get winded just walking up and down the stairs.  During the first 12 weeks I was just way too exhausted to do anything but sleep after work but now that I'm into the 2nd tri and got some energy back I was hoping to be able to start running again but I just can't :(.  Walking isn't quite the same for me.  I keep meaning to give prenatal yoga a try.

  • I am 21 weeks along and ran a 5k last weekend. Well actually I jogged/walked it. It took 49 minutes! Hahaha. But I don't care it felt good. I will participate in another 5k in three weeks. Hopefully I am still comfortable to jog it.
