I don't know why this is the item that we seem to be stuck on, but it is.
Any recommendations? I know there is at least one out there built for twins. Is that really necessary? We were looking at getting a standard playard but to be honest, I haven't researched much about them. DH has and I think he's over-thinking it altogether.
Have you found one that you really like or that works well for twins/multiples?
TIA!
Re: Can you recommend your playard?
I remember when I was pregnant going to BRU with my mom and standing in the play yard aisle with her and feeling TOTALLY overwhelmed. They all looked the same but for some reason were different prices. I didn't get it at all, and I felt like I was missing something. :-)
Many twin moms recommend against the twin pack n play because of something having to do with the weight limit of the bassinet--hopefully somebody will pipe in with the details on that, because I'm not sure. I never considered the twin one. I ended up getting one arm's reach co-sleeper for our bedroom, and one pack n play for our main level (we have a two-floor house; bedrooms are upstairs). The co-sleeper attaches to the side of a bed, if you want it to (and we did), but it also functions like a play yard if you want it to do that. I really appreciated the co-sleeper option, and it works fine as a play yard, but it is MUCH more difficult to deal with/assemble than a pack n play, and much heavier. So if you intend to move your play yard around a lot, keep that in mind if you're considering an arm's reach co-sleeper.
As for the pack n play, here's what you need to know: 1) pay attention to the weight limit on the bassinet, and think about that in relation to how long you expect to have two babies in there. 2) If you intend to keep it somewhere that is far from your changing area, the changing table feature is really nice and worth the extra money. 3) I have not heard of anybody appreciating the bassinet feature; you'll have two bouncies and they work better for that anyway. 4) Other than that, all that matters is that you think it's cute and that it's a price you like.
Good luck!
Oh and to answer your question, to pick a pack n play I basically went to BRU and looked for one that was on clearance which had a changing table and a bassinet. The one I got was cheap because they were clearing out the fabric choice (something like "Bombay," I think), and especially cheap when I used a 20% off coupon.
I got my co-sleeper on craigslist. (A good choice for those, because they're spendy.)
We decided not to get one. Instead we are purchasing this

and also buying one of those foam rugs to go under it. I felt that the play pens are too small. I never used mine with DS it ended up in the basement. So eh I don't think they are important.
