No glider/rocker?

Is anyone not getting a glider/rocker for the nursery? We just don't have the room now that we have the other furniture put together...we have a deliciously comfortable couch with chaise lounge, but we're not sure if we'll miss not having a rocker...Just curious if we're the only ones considering this...

Re: No glider/rocker?

  • I have a recliner. I didn't want the glider...
  • Loading the player...
  • We're not sure on ours, mostly just for finance purposes. I was just planning on using our oversized sofa and just manually swaying a bit, but we'll see how long that lasts.
  • We've decided against a rocker/glider also.  I figure once the LO gets here we can always order one if we decide we really can't do without it.

  • We ended up not getting one.  Haven't missed it yet.  As a matter of fact, the one time I nursed in one, I didn't like it.

  • I would say it depends on you...what a great answer huh? I know that I rocked my previous 2 children ALL THE TIME!!! I didn't get a chair for the nursery because that's not where I will "hang out" at. We bought a new rocking chair for our living room a few weeks ago.
I prefer a rocking chair over glider because I like to be able to put my legs up and more importantly, I like to be able to put the back of the chair in the reclining position and get comfortable with the baby in my arms. There were some nights when I had sick babies and they only way they would sleep was in my arms, so I REALLY loved my recliner then. It has been 7 years since I had a baby but I can remember how important a recliner was :)

  • We aren't getting one.  I have horrible motion sickness and rockers/gliders tend to make me queasy.  I tried a glider in BRU, but it just wasn't going to work out. We have an older recliner that we are considering covering and putting in the baby's room.

  • I have a comfy chair/ottoman for the baby's room, but it doesn't glide/rock.

  • We haven't decided what we're putting in there yet.  If anything at all.  The baby room is super close to the living room, so maybe night feedings will happen in the living room??  I really don't know.  I do know a rocker/glider won't be put to use in the nursery during the day...my guess is we'll be in the living room or downstairs watching tv/doing laundry.

I think we'll probably wait and see too...

  • I know that with DD I really never used it. So I don't think that it is a necessary purchase.

I did buy one this time because for some reason in my head I'm thinking I will use it more this time haha

  • I have never used a glider/rocker. I wanted to get one for this baby. I think I might end up getting a rocking papasan instead but, not sure if that would work in our living room though.

I didn't have a glider with DS... and we don't have the room right now to get one for this LO. I did just fine without one when I had DS! Guilt be gone!

  • we are not getting one due to lack of space and money. Ill probably nurse in the living room, we are in a small apartment so at least I dont have to walk far

  • I'm planning to buy a glider. The main reason is, in one of the baby books I'm reading, it recommends that the baby is kept unstimulated during night-time feedings (minimal light and a quiet room) so that they don't think night time feedings = playtime. If DH and I have the TV and lights on in the living room after she's gone to bed and she wakes, I think it makes more sense to nurse DD in her room and then hopefully she'll fall right back asleep. I'm a first time mom, so I'll find out later on if this plan actually works. Smile

  • Haven't decided if we're getting one or not. We have a 2-story house and LO and I are mostly likely to hang in the family room during day time. Not sure if i want a glider in the fam room.

  • We have one in the living room so we're not putting one in the baby's room. There's no room for it anyway.

  • A friend of mine also swears by her exercise/birthing ball...not for nursing obviously, but for rocking/bouncing/swaying her DD to sleep.  She also used it a lot when expecting, so it's like the baby is familiar with the motion and instantly relaxes.  Just a small, cheap, and portable idea.
