Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Vaccine reaction 9 days later?

Georgia has a quarter sized, red spot on her arm at one of her injection sites.  It's a bit swollen, and really hard if you press it.

She's not bothered by it, but has been a bit more irritable lately...and he sleep has been crappy too.

Anyone else experience this kind of delayed side effect?

Re: Vaccine reaction 9 days later?

  • Dr. Google whatever vaccine she had - some of the reaction time periods are pretty late, like 7-11 days.  The CDC website is especially helpful for this kind of stuff.

  • DD got her chicken pox vaccine about 10 days ago and still has a  red lump at the injection site.  She also got a terrible diaper rash about a week later, which I assume is not related, but I mention it because she has never gotten a diaper rash before, other than a bit of redness.

  • This sounds pretty normal as most vaccines give reactions a week or so later. But without knowing the exact vaccine this is just a guess.

I know this is a little different but my dog has a lump for several months following a vaccine she recieved between her shoulder blades.  They said it was normal and that sometimes the vaccine can effect the skin around the injection site.  I know it's not always helpful to compare a dog to a kid but it's kind of the same idea :)  DD had a slightly similar reaction to a vaccine and the nurses basically told us it was normal as if we were wasting the time by even asking!  But if you're still concerned then call your pedi tomorrow. But from everything I know, those symptoms alone, it sounds normal.
