DS has difficult hair- thick & very straight & sticks straight up and a wicked cowlick at the nape of his neck, plus he gets hysterical at haircuts (like trying to cut off his arm screaming, we've tried different people, holding, not holding, toys, bubbles, treats etc). we used to have his hair on the longer side so it would lay a little nicer but that requires more frequent cuts which really are a total nightmare. So we took him yesterday & told her to cut it short, even though we knew it would stick up more, at least we wouldnt have to traumatize him with cuts as often.
So it is all choppy & uneven b/c he squirms & cries so much & of course is sticking up even iwth wetting down. Now I'm thinking maybe every morning I could brush it w/ a damp brush & rub some kind of product on (but dont want anything hard/crusty), I just don't know what would work.
Advice?
Re: does anyone use product on DS's difficult hair?
Sorry... no advice on products here... maybe call a hair stylist?
I did want to warn you about using products on your child's hair though. Try to find something that is "child safe" with no chemicals etc in it. I know adult hair gel/sprays etc is really bad for your child. I'm sorry that I don't have any suggestions of these types of products.
Could your ds rock a mohawk?! hehe

DS has double cowlicks at the back of his head, which tend to cause an "alfalfa" style spike. Usually I try to brush it down with water and leave his hair alone, but when he's having an especially bad hair-day I'll just work in a small dab of DH's hair gel and do some spikes or a fauxhawk. I don't like putting a lot of product in his hair so I try to keep it to a minimum and only use it for special occasions or when absolutely necessary to keep him from looking like an unkempt movie character. If DH had his way DS would rock the spikes/fauxhawk every day though.
The gel is "Moco de Gorila" (literally, gorilla snot) from Mexico. It holds really well and never gets flaky or goopy. It's probably more than you're looking for though. I'd be interested to know what sorts of products other moms use to spike little boys' hair -- I've never found anything specifically made for kids.
